Resources for young girl

Published

Hi Everyone.

I spoke to a mom today whose daughter got her period for the first time. The girl is in fourth grade. The mom asked if I had any resources for her and her daughter because she is so young (the school does the puberty class in 5th grade). I did not but offered to put some resources together for her but she declined.

My question is, what resources do you have available for these students? I haven't had any luck finding resources specifically geared towards younger girls. I would like to have some on hand in case this scenario comes up again...

Thanks in advance!

Ok, I do not have any resources BUT quick story. I have a 6th grader that started her period 2 months ago. She came into my office saying, "I started that thing...you know." Apparently, her parents call it "that thing" to avoid actually saying the word period. Eh, not sure why. Anyway, she was at home that morning with her dad when she started and he (bless his heart) had to help her find a pad and explain (mom was at work) how to put it on. So, now she has this obsession with pads. I had just bought an 18 pack of pads for the clinic. That day she came into my office 4 times and grabbed at least 4 pads each time. All I could do is laugh to myself and see how many more times she would come in. By the end of the day I had only 6 pads left. Haha! I have no clue what she was doing with them. I'm assuming she was squirreling them away somewhere around the school. Bless her. If she was truly having to change her pads that often during the day then she didn't start her period....she was a gunshot wound victim. I love my kiddos. ;-)
