I have accepted another position at another hospital. Is it okay to quit and make it effective immediately?

Usually you lose any accumulated vacation/PTO and will not be eligible for re-hire. You will have burned your bridges there, but in the future when people check your references they will be told you are not eligible for re-hire which will look bad.
Up to you, but not a very good move. How desperate is your situation?

No, its not. The "giving notice" part is so they can find a replacement for you - whether they actually do so is not the point. The point is that you gave them adequate time to prepare for your absence. It is unprofessional to quit without notice and guaranteed to burn that bridge.
Well I started having some heart issues and my dr. thought that it could be related to the fact that I work 3rd shift and he recommended that i quit asap.
Should I put something lke that in the letter?
I would get a note from your Dr saying that you need to quit immediately and then meet with HR so hopefully it will not be held against you. Without a note from the MD though it will follow you around your whole working history......
