From some of the previous threads and even from my own conversations with
working FNPs the feeling I get is that most, if not all, feel unprepared when they
graduate.
Has there ever been a proposal for a residency program for newly graduated NPs?
I actually wish it was a mandatory requirement - just like medicine.
I think it would help new NPs learn in a more constructive enviroment as well as
building confidence in a new role. Let's face it - this is a big change, to go from taking orders to issuing
orders.
Right now it seems like it's the sink or swim method.
The lucky NPs are the ones who have a patient and sympathetic doctor with whom to work, (one who doesn't mind you
calling ALL the time).

I'll bet most NP schools won't mind if you keep signing on for more clinical experiences. The only formal residency program I've seen for NPs was one for ortho.

My thoughts on this are that any residency requirement should be incorporated to the collaboration agreement for NP's
