Ok so I recently graduated (4/5/13) and our school required us to get at least a 90% predicted probability on our ATI Comprehensive Predictor OR completion of a certain % of VATI. Well the 1st comp predictor I took I only got an 89% so I enrolled in VATI & began working on that. Then 4/22/13 I took another comp predictor at my school and got a 97%! The school released my certificate of completion and I scheduled my test date for 5/28/13 because I still wanted to finish VATI. Well I finished all the VATI subjects this past weekend and took yet another comp predictor via my VATI coach...BUT this time I only got an 89% AGAIN!!! Now I am so disappointed and I don't know if I should reschedule my test date or if I should keep 5/28 as my date...any advice?!!?
don't give up! try the lacharity book! i am scheduled to take my nclex-rn next wednesday and i think it is helping me. i am using hurst review lacharity, and exam cram (which is written by pearson!!) you made it through nursing school, now you just have to pass this one last test. you can do it![/quote']Thanks...I think right now it is just really hitting me hard! Thanks for the info on the review books you used. I only used ATI although I purchased the Kaplan 2013-14 book with the CD I didn't get past the first couple chapters because I felt confident enough with my ATI scores. I think the SATA questions were the most difficult for me, I struggled with those on every test throughout school.
we used ATI in school, and i scored an 83.7 on my predictor (which translates to a 99% probability on passing) but ATI is sooo different from the way lacharity and hurst review questions are worded. i struggle with SATA too! the lacharity book as quite a few for you to practice on. oh! and i was using NCSBN's practice questions.. (i had a 3 week subscription and it ran out) they are the people who write some of the actual nclex questions so that might be a helpful resource for you too! you get to the practice questions/learning modules through learningext.com
it was only your first try for the nclex. now you have an idea of what it's like, and can be even more prepared for your next attempt! just stay positive :)
hi kay. good luck. is the exam cram authored by pearson? im also preparing for nclex rn & lvn.. hitting 2 birds at the same time. my only references are saunders 5th edition and hurst. combining the two help alot. i have no other references except those two materials
Thank you:) the authors are wilda rinehart, diann sloan, and ciara hurd. what i have gathered from the other posts i've read on here is that it is from pearson as in pearson vue. (i could be wrong, but the book does have the pearson logo on it) and the other resource i was using is the NCSBN practce questions through learningext.com. also there is a 35 page review on this website. it is an attatchment that alot of people have said is very helpful. i have read through it a few times and plan to read through a few more before i test!

the 35 pg review i'm referring too is at the end of this post as an "attached file"
(I only used ATI although I purchased the Kaplan 2013-14 book with the CD I didn't get past the first couple chapters because I felt confident enough with my ATI scores.)
Wow!!!! First, I'm so sorry that you didn't make it this time. Secondly, TRY AGAIN!!! Kaplan Strategies, Practices, & Review 2010 edition is ALL that I used for the NCLEX 3 years ago. I read it through twice: first time was just to say that I did complete the book; and the second time was to pay attention to the rationales. With every question that I got wrong, I stayed on that question until I thought through their way of arriving at the correct answer. Then I moved on to the next question. I completed two of the three exams in the back of the book before I took the NCLEX and walked out after 75 questions. I studied for a combined total of about 8 hours because once I figured out how to rationalize each answer, it was pretty much a wrap.
I'm not at all familiar with ATI/VATI testing and scores. I'm assuming that is something introduced in traditional nursing programs???? My program was online so I cannot equate those scores with passes or failures. But I will say to dust yourself off and focus on being able to rationalize your way through the answer-selection (critical thinking) process and forget about scores.
Good luck to you and we look forward to hearing your NCLEX success story in a few weeks!
DO NOT GIVE UP. My school also utilized ATI/VATI and I was also given the green light to test.
Guess what happened... I failed. I took it a second time May 2013 utilizing multiple review book like Hurst, Kaplan, Saunders, ATI yet again on my second try... I failed. Both times I got all 265 questions. I have scheduled my retest (third time is a charm!) already and I must say the test plan change that took place in April shocked me. I had lots of SATA questions, more cardiac rhythm strips I have ever seen, and drugs that I've never heard of. I was told by many of my classmates and friends that had passed that I was over studying, didn't know that was possible, and to give my brain a break. So I took two weeks off and looked at notes etc. in my spare time then spent more time on questions and nothing else. I have a tutor that I meet up with when I need to and he also informed me to stop studying material! Focus on questions because after all we have completed nursing school and NCLEX tests our abilities to provide SAFE and efficient care as a UNEXPERIENCED nurse. Meaning we already know everything needed to pass. One thing I have done is I got rid of that ATI book, I realize it was of benefit to me in nursing school but not now. The NCLEX is so different. Tutor given strategies:
I do anywhere from 100-200 questions each day from my SAUNDERS book. Read ONLY THE rationale for the questions that I get wrong and see what strategies Saunders say I need to use to answer that type of question to train my brain, to think that way.
All in all do not give up, you know the material, you are a nurse, God has given you this divine assignment, NOW GO SHOW the NCLEX PEOPLE!
Thank you! I don't want to say I'm glad someone else went through this...but in a way I'm relieved to know that I'm not the only person that failed. I haven't had it in me to start studying again...but after reading that I think it is time to dust myself off and start again. I am going to read and reread the Kaplan book and I am also planning on purchasing the PDA by Lacharity and the Saunders book as well...I'm unsure if I want to do more VATI...I guess it can't hurt but I just feel that it didn't work the 1st time so maybe it isn't for me necessarily. Hopefully now that I know what to expect I will pass this second time!!!!
