Hey guys, I'm new to the site and just registered an account. I was wondering if any of you could give me some tips on to where I should apply in my current situation. I am a junior at the University of Connecticut and my gpa stands at a 3.37 with 61 credits(making me a junior). I am currently in the school of allied health and I've been trying my hardest to get into Uconn's school of nursing to obtain a bachelors in nursing! I'm 20 years old and have held a job for 3 years. I am about to begin volunteer work at middletown hospital in order to have some experience and juice up my resume. Also, I am a male.
I know Uconn admissions state, a minimum of 3.0 but lets be realist im sure its above that in order to get accepted. I was wondering if you guys could give me a heads up on my chances of getting into a list of these schools with the stats i've stated above: and perhaps other schools you all would recommend. Thank you, I appreciate any comments

What pre-req's have you taken and what are your grades in those specifically? When I applied to Southern we were told that we should have a minimum GPA of 3.6 if we wanted the best chance of getting in.. although I have heard of people getting in with lower than your 3.37. If your grades in the science pre-req's are good then I'd say you have an excellent chance. Also, I'm not sure about the other 2 schools but at SCSU you need to have all 9 pre-reqs completed before the start of the program so keep that in mind. I ended up having to take a full year of classes before I could apply (I transferred from a CC).

You should also consider a physician's assistant program; it sounds like you have the patient contact hours and GPA to get in. I have a BS in Biology from ECSU and was considering PA school but can't afford it and am choosing nursing instead. However, I have at least 3 friends with a GPA around what yours is who have been accepted into PA programs. Good luck!
Thanks guys, CCSU's head of nursing admissions said i was a strong candidate in being accepted with a gpa well over 3.0 and UCONN's head of nursing admissions said i stand a good chance in the competition in the school of nursing. Hopefully they aren't just pulling my strings but I believe they can't directly say you'll get in considering it's against the rules. I could be wrong though, hopefully ill get in uconn :)
Chem = B-
A&P I= B- Part 2= B+

Those are good grades.. if you do well on your entrance exam (TEAS or whatever your school requires), I'd say you have a pretty good chance. Do yourself a favor and STUDY for any exams that you may have to take. I studied for about a week straight with the study guide before I took the TEAS and it helped A LOT.
Finished the semester, now im ready to apply to the uconn program. I received a 3.78 for the semester. Physics=A Genetics(MCB)=B gen ed= A psyc= A. Hopefully im good

Hi there, I was just accepted to Uconn's nursing program as a transfer student and I'm stoked! I am a student at SCSU, which is where I primarily want to go but I won't find out their decision for another month. I got into Uconn with an overall gpa of 3.46. I have all A's in all my nursing pre-reques except for a B in statistics(required for scsu). Your grades are quite good so I wouldn't worry at all. I hope this helps, take care!

Tweety,
I am also a student at SCSU and I plan on transferring to UCONN. Did uconn accept all of your nursing pre-req and along with other required courses from SCSU?
