required summer reading

i start my ADN program on august 20th (YAY!). at our orientation last month they told us that there is required summer reading & there will be a test the first week of class... on thirteen chapters!

i'm excited to get started & to have something to occupy myself while i wait for august 20th... let's hope this optimism lasts once school starts & we only have a week to read thirteen chapters instead of a couple months! :lol2:

so does anyone else have required summer reading? & have you started/finished it yet?

Oh that's too bad Roland won't be teaching your first semester!

I haven't bought my books yet. I'm getting the fundamentals book this week. Puresass did they tell you guys what kind of math we were going to get tested on. I don't think Roland is teaching my class (night and weekend) either. He said he was during orientation, but now the instructor is listed as Michele Scott.

they just told us to get a dosage calculations book (anything will do) & study up on that, but didn't really go into specifics. they said they expect us to teach ourselves dosage calculations, but it doesn't sound like it's going to be TOOOO hard of a math test.

the fundamentals reading isn't really difficult as far as the info, it's just the VOLUME of it is insane! you'll definitely be able to finish it before school starts, though.

You want to know your conversions. Grams to Mg to mcg....stuff like that.

It's really basic PO med calculations and I think basic IV drip rate questions.

They will give you a sheet to practice with and they will go over it with you a week before the test. It isn't hard.

One thing to remember what screwed a lot of people up is putting the right label on your answer. If it is in MG put MG, if it is in ML's, put ML. THe math is easy, but pay attention to detail.

My class didn't last year. We had a packet of suggested reading. Terms & basic math type stuff. However, the incoming Level I students at my school had to buy a book early and read 5 chapters. I feel bad for them because I would be super stressed.
