Required Immunizations for Associate Degree Nursing Program - North Carolina

Published

I am a new ADN student. I was given a list of required vaccinations at my last meeting, which includes the Hepatitis B vaccine series. I received my Hepatitis B vaccine as a child. However, I'm unsure whether my shots are still up-to-date. Does the nursing program require an updated vaccine of Hepatitis B?

Go to your family doctor and ask for a script to get titers drawn for any vaccines that you do not have records for. That will show antibodies for those diseases

They probably will, or the hospitals where you'll do your clinicals will, so yes, get your titers drawn for that and anything else they want, and then you'll know what immunizations to get. And when you do, save your records in a safe place, because this will NOT be the last time you'll have to provide proof of immunization!

TRUE STORY! Save everything you need for nursing school because you will probably have to do it all again. I just had to resubmit all 6 forms for my clinical site because the ones I filled out last quarter were handwritten and now the site wants them typed. Ughhhh.

you may be asked to get a titer done to see that you are actually immune. We are requiring varicella titer as well, in keeping with CDC recommendations for healthcare providers in acute care settings. Also pertussis
