Request for speech-to-text/transcription software recommendation?

Published

Hello fellow nurses, NPs and typists!

Could anyone recommend an affordable speech to text software? (HIPAA compliant, of course).

My employer does not pay for it, so, I have to be conscientious of cost.

At my last job I used M Modal,  it was okay.

I currently trying Fusion Narrate, however, I am not crazy about it  so far.

I know that the "golden child" of dictation is "dragon one", however, they are on pricey side: Over $500 as a one time fee and then about $100 a month. If there is something decent on the market that is more affordable I would like to try that.

Thank you all so much in advance!

In case others find it helpful:

Heard back from a couple of companies.

1. M Modal. They are about $180 initial  cost then $80/mo. can use on multiple devices, but not on phone yet.

2. nvoq voice: $250 intitial. annual $630.

3. webchart md: "15 cents per transcribed line... except traditional phone dictation, which is 6 cents per minute for a locally-based phone number."

I'm intrigued by https://www.suki.ai/ but  although the idea of a I charting seems great, I am worried that it might not translate  into practice.

Also, a  representative of one of these companies kindly shared mic recommendations

Thank you for asking this!  I was also hoping some others might chime in.   Your list is a great start.  Thanks!

This is a great idea - in theory - but that is about it. I just don't think it is practical to do in practice. I am currently using advancedMD and it is beautiful chart notes prepopulate from previous sessions, so you can just update what you need, HPI, ROS, Plan, meds, for follow ups which take just a minute or so.

Psychotherapy notes are protected and your documentation is something like "supportive therapy for interpersonal distress" if you are doing that. Otherwise HPI elements are just like SI, depression scale, anxiety, sleep, etc.

Then there is proofing - at that point you might as well do what most providers do, copy and paste from a template and update based on your targeted assessment/problem for the patient.

Hi DrCovid,

Are you referring to AI, like suki? I'm suspicious of its effective translation into practice, too.

I do love my dictation software! ?

@Joying What kind of care setting do you intend to use a transcription service in?
