Reputation of St Charles health system?

Published

Interested in relocating back to my hometown of Bend. I have no nursing experience there and do not know the reputation of St Charles in Bend. Can anyone tell me of their experience working there, or someone you know? In particular, I'm wanting to know if they treat their nurses well, have an appropriate benefits package, etc. My experience is mainly ER, in addition to some case management and currently PACU/Endo. I'm also interested in working at an outpatient surgery center. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Specializes in Peri-Op.

I currently live in bend but do not work here. I work as a traveler in Cali around 6 months a year and take off 6 months a year.

The general feeling is pretty bad about the hospital and the way it is currently being managed. Nurses and staff hold alot of resentment towards the hospital admin and management, it seems that way anyhow when I talk to them. My wife works in the Lab and likes it just ike any other big hospital, people here might not be used to corporate healthcare..... The ER specifically has a huge turnover rate and is generally short staffed, this is not unusual though honestly.... The pay isnt that great given the recent spike in living costs in Bend. How long have you been away from here? The town has grown by leaps and bounds but overall everywhere is paying the same.

I worked PRN at the surgery center and it is nice, everyone there is very nice. Pay is lower than the hospital. People are nicer though, no call, no weekends, no holidays.

Overall the town is still beautiful, the surroundings are too. There are alot of people here but it isnt horrible. People who have lived here a long time thing the housing is outrageous, I have seen worse..... way worse. They talk of waitlists and horrible times waiting for available housing. I got here a little over a year ago and walked in to a place I liked, asked to rent it and did. I will likely buy a place out towards Bachelor in the next couple years.

Hi Argo!

I'm a new grad from PA and I was wondering if the surgery center is willing to hire new grads? I'm interested in Peri-op and the PACU but my school did not have a senior practicum in the OR. I did mine at the ED of philly's VA hospital. I currently am working as a nurse extern/tech at a major hospital in philly on a med-surg unit and I'm trying to find shadowing experience in the OR. Could you please recommend me a good way to get started in the OR or PACU in Oregon?
