Repeating nursing prerequisites

Published

My question is on repeating nursing prerequisites. I have to take anatomy again. This will be my third time. I have to repeat my micro class, again. This also will be my third time. I passed physiology with a C. I refuse to give up. What course of action should I pursue to EVENTUALLY become a RN? Will a being a CNA to a LVN and to a RN? Again, I refuse to give up my pursuit of a nursing career.

Thanks!

Don't feel bad at all! I had to retake the first part of a&p 3 times! I felt really dumb compared to others who passed it the first time around but honestly that's because I had real bad study habits the first time, the second time I didn't try hard enough, until FINALLY I got myself together nd a good study group to get to where I wanna get. Don't let that discourage u, I know plenty of who got straight C's on all their sciences and still got into a program. If it makes u feel better, then yes I will recommend retaking it and find u a good study group or perhaps cut down on hours if you're working. Good luck!

Don't feel bad! It took me 4 tries to get an A in comp I lol. I wasn't putting forth the effort that I should. I try to use my story to inspire people to never give up (hope that doesn't sound conceited!!) because I had a 1.93 GPA and by retaking a lot of classes and kicking butt in the rest of my pre-reqs, I applied to my program with a 3.47 GPA. I start in January :) good luck to you and do not give up!!

Don't give up. Around me, univ's will not take you if you failed a class two times or more, but that is absolutely not the same everywhere (just like some require the HESI, some don't, some use your pre req GPA, some use your cumulative GPA, some average your retakes, some take the highest, eetc)

Sometimes the best thing you can do is just get that C and move on. There are plenty of nursing schools that will take you, they may not be your first choice or may require a bit of a commute, but there are so many out there it's not even funny.

The key thing is don't give up. =)If you want a dream to come true you must be willing enough to fight for it. Honestly don't be too hard on yourself about repeating classes, because I'm on the same boat. I actually just completed taking my psych class again to get a higher grade. The good thing about repeating classes is relearning things. This will hopefully enhance your memory. For myself I took the medical office assistant course for extra credits and landed a job at a clinic. This for me is beneficial, because I get to work with the dr's and actually apply what I learn at the most basic levels. But back to the whole repeating classes a good study habit is reading the lesson once after class, spread out your study hours, make what your studying meaningful as in somehow relate the lesson to a personal memory, and have a study buddy. Regardless if they're in the class or not by teaching others you'll end up grasping the concepts more easily vs just reading the textbook on your own. Don't worry you got this! =)

Protip: if you have to take it for the third time you are doing something blatantly wrong. Find your faults in your study habits and correct them. Also make sure your school isnt averaging your prereq grades together like mine does, as in if you take it first time get a F 2nd time you get a A they average the two together instead of replacing the F with the A. If thats the case you might be wasting your time due to deminishing returns. Cheers

That's the spirit of not giving up! When I was a prenursing student, I had to retake a class or too, one being Micro. I had to re-evaluate how I was studying to make it because nursing school will not be any better. In my program if you failed a class, they allowed you to stay within the program but fail another course and you were out (even if you were a senior). There are many other nursing programs who won't be so friendly.

Study groups are great as well as speaking with your professors. I was not shy at all about scheduling office time with the professors regarding going over exams and reviewing lectures. Are you taking on too much?
