Hello, everyone. I hope somebody can help me.. I have a question regarding renewal of eligibility to take NECLEX-RN in California.
I am a foreign nurse and got a eligibility letter from CA nursing board and it will expire Dec.13.15. I haven't taken the exam yet but I want to renew my eligibility without taking exam.
The letter stated that if I have'nt applied ATT and taken the exam for 2 years, my eligibility will be null and void. I haven't applied ATT yet.
My concern is if I apply for renewal with the fee $150.00 before my expiration date, will they renew my eligibility? Or do I still need to take a exam at least 1 time before expiration?
Does anybody had a similer experience?
If I take a exam from now, I have to wait for my result for 3-4 weeks and if I failed, I still need to wait for 45 days to retake the test.During 45 days, if my eligibility expires, it is too late for me to renew my eligibility, so that's why I'm scared to apply for the exam. If possible, I just want to try to apply for renewal of my eligibility without taking exam.
Does anyone know if it is acceptable?
I tried to contact CA nursing board multiple times, but no one answer the phone and never respond to my email....

You cannot apply for a new ATT until your current one expires. Reported wait is 4-6 weeks for new ATT. (Around 45 days). You will delay your exam even further.
If you already paid Pearson you have nothing to lose by taking the exam before December as you already paid $159 + $200
The longer you delay taking the exam the you reduce your statistical chances of passing first attempt. December is 3 months away! Plenty of time to prepare >80% of US educated candidates pass the NCLEX-RN first attempt. The potential drops the further from graduation you attempt the test.
Why do you want to postpone?
Thank you for responding. I am a foreign nurse and finally received my eligibility. The reason why I haven't taken exam yet is because of my language, my work and my family issue.. I haven't paid pearson and received ATT yet. My worry is if I apply for ATT from now, take the exam and wait for result, and in case if I fail, I still need to wait for 45 days to retake exam.. I'm scared to lose my eligibility because of my short time. If possible, I just want to apply to renew my eligibility without taking the exam but I never heard anyone doing it without taking exam..so Im worried...
You will wait just as long for a new auth whether you test before 12/15. You cannot request a new auth until AFTER 12/15/15. Take the English as a 2nd language classes as that will improve your potential to pass as an IEN (pass rate 1st attempt
