has anyone enrolled in the inaugural Accelerated BSN class that started january 2009? what are your impressions so far?
thank you,
topcat
Okay, so remove "medical" from original my question and insert "nursing". For previous (or current) students, what was personally your favorite and least favorite parts of the program as far as the actual coursework? (Favorite and least favorite classes, clinicals, etc.) Any insight would be very helpful!
What's your email address?
It's very difficult to answer your question. For starters (and again I only speak from personal experience), you're too busy to sit down and reflect on how much you enjoyed a class/clinical. The goal for me was to get through one thing and move on to the next. You will have good days and bad days when it comes to clinicals. And as far as classes, it is a lot of work and it's fast paced. Some classes seem like a lot of busy work, and some classes are interesting but are being taught by people who are not very good at teaching. Then again, there are professors/instructors there who are phenomenal at teaching.Secondly, how much you like a class is directly related to what you are interested in. Some of my classmates loved OB/Peds. I, on the other hand, don't like kids. I preferred mental health, and some of my classmates couldn't wait for mental health to be over with. Some liked night shift, and others liked day shift.
Best part about the program: it took 12 months to complete, and I felt prepared.
Least favorite: I had to teach myself the material in a few courses because the professor didn't seem to have a grasp of the material herself.
Hope that helps.
Thank you for the response. It makes sense that favorites and least favorites will be personal, I was just looking for any insight. Right now most of the clinicals seem interesting to me, but I know it will take actually being immersed in them to find what I love (and don't). I guess I can basically look forward to a LOT of reading and self-teaching.
Roommate Needed in July. I will be attending the July class this year and need to cut back on my expenses for the accelerated program so I will require a roommate. I have over 10 years experience in trauma and my mother is an RN so I will be able to access external resources when needed to help us get through the class. I have a 3 story condo with 2-1/2 car garage for your vehicle and I will use the top 2 rooms and be renting the master bedroom with your own bathroom downstairs. The property is located near downtown orlando in the middle of all the hospitals for our clinicals. Also, have an 8 year daughter that will be there every other weekend so you wont have to be worried about excessive partying and shananagans going on but I do have a lot of fun.. I could get other roomates but one in the same class will be beneficial to us both. Call Ryan if interested at 321 436 7910. I will discuss the details and then we can meet at orientation to see if thats what we want to do. Thanks.
Hey I'm going to be apart of the July class. I was in the school before but failed one class by one point. I can let you guys know what to expect and i might have some old notes. Also if anyone is looking for an apartment I know a couple of places. The list that Remington gives you is way too expensive.

Sorry to hear you failed by one point. I am up for any advice you are willing to share... Which class was it? We just got our books today, about double of what I was expecting, lol. I know this is not going to be an easy year!
It was Pharmacology. The whole class did bad and then the teacher asked us how he can help. We told him to focus on whats important and he did. He cut the slides down from 250 to like 180 and less. I believe its the same teacher again so it shouldn't be too bad. If you have any more questions let me know.
Thanks so much for everyone's post about RCON. I am working on my application packet now for Jan. 2013 program. I am a little nervous especially with my acceptance. I have a Bachelors from UCF is Health Service Administration.
I have a gpa of 2.6 in HSA and my pre req gpa is about a 3.6 I also stated working on my MBA only took 5 classes so far and have a 2.9 gpa. I currently work at MD Anderson Cancer Center a part of Orlando Health and I see Remington students all the time.
I have strong references from my Practice Manager and one of the physicians who is the Chief Gynecology Oncology Surgeon and I am her referral coordinator and even got to observe a few surgeries. I'm hoping they don't care about the TEAS too much because I suck at that test and I have taken two different versions.
Fingers are crossed and hope to get in and survive RCON Accelerated BSN program. Any advice from you guys would be great and congrats to those who got in for July 2012 and good luck to those who are still applying.
Hey all!
A lot has happened in the past few weeks, and I am excited for all of you who will be starting this month. I was accepted into the July 2012 class conditionally (pending completion of Chemistry). however I found out I got in about a week before orientation and I had a lot to do in that week. at that same time I also found out that I was put on the wait list for the Valencia/UCF concurrent program for this fall. at that point I was stuck in a dilemma. I ended up asking to see if I could postpone my application to the Jan 2013 class. So in the event I do not get in the valencia/ucf program i have a little more time to complete my Chemistry and then begin in Jan.
(sorry of that sounded confusing or jumbled!! lol)
I'd love to hear from any of you who just started in July. Maybe you are too slammed with school to answer! I'm shooting for Jan. 2013 and want to know as much as possible because I feel it's hard to get answers direct from RCON. What's the schedule like? What are your actual hours and days? How are the professors? When did you get your acceptance letter? When in July did you actually start? I'm really curious when January would start exactly! Friend me, message me, whatever. I'm local to the area so I can offer any information in that area if anyone needs it!
