What I'm worried about is being a new grad and not residing in the area at the time of application. I feel like that puts me at a huge disadvantage. We definitely don't feel comfortable moving to the area without securing a job first, so moving there and then applying isn't much of an option
Hi,
I did this (several years ago, but I did it!).
I highly suggest you get your FL RN license before you start applying. I didn't have any issues, but it did take longer than in MA and ME (where I started)
By and large, I found that most people didn't take me seriously without one.
I had some experiance when I was getting ready to move, and I did have a bit of a time getting a job. I'm happy to PM if you want details or if I can help at all
Thank you!! That is so helpful.
I actually just became active on allnurses & I'm not sure how to navigate yet(aka how to pm)! Would you mind emailing me ? [email protected]
Will you already be an experienced nurse when you are moving or will you be a new grad? I think you'd have an easier time if your situation is the former.
I was just in Tampa last weekend and there were ads all over Tropicana Field for Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. I don't know anything about it, though. Also, Shriners has their headquarters there.

Hubby and I are both going to school for nursing. We plan to relocate to Tampa, FL / Clearwater area in two years and are concerned about how we are going to go about it... I personally love to plan ahead and would like some pointers! I wish to work in a peds unit, but I'm not quite sure how I (or hubby) am going to get a job prior to relocation.... help please!!
