Relocation Questions.

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hello! I am in nursing school, and I am looking to relocate after I am done with school in Dec 2012. I want to know if anyone could recommend if I should work here in Cleveland take the nclex or should I go somewhere else and start the process there? What states on the East Coast Midwest area have jobs available and the pay is nice. I am going to be a LPN. I don't mind working in a nursing home.

My suggestion: start looking for jobs in both Cleveland and elsewhere...because you never know where you may find work. Also, if possible do not relocate without a job in place first because you don't know when you will get a job. You can do a lot of job applications online and fly out for promising interviews, which in the long run is cheaper than relocating somewhere just to job hunt with no income coming in.

As far as relocating, the market is generally tighter on both coasts, and even tighter for new grads anywhere. If you consider Texas, the Midwest and the north middle states (the Dakotas, Montana, etc.) you may have better luck, since those are the states that always seem to be posting in nursing journals looking for nurses.

Thank you so much for your post. I will do that. Once I am done in school, take the nclex hopefully pass, and get licensed and work here. At the same time I will be placing applications in places that I want to work. I have considered Charlotte, North Carolina. Texas is too hot for me lol. I love Cleveland weather, I wanted to live somewhere comparable. I am so scared about the future. I see all these posts about jobs not hiring and its easy to get discouraged. I just pray to GOD, excel in school and sell myself at every interview. Thank you for listening.

Texas is a huge state- you can get all sorts of weather :) I lived there for 17 years, and loved it SO much- the South is so much more friendly (ime). The pay in smaller towns may look worse, but the cost of living (rent, utilities, etc) is lower- so your money goes farther. Don't rule out anything :)
