Relocating from WI. to Ft. Lauderdale, job options??

U.S.A. Florida

I will be graduating in December with a RN degree from a technical college. I am going to be transitioning from a Nurse Intern to a Graduate Nurse position in the hospital I work now but I would love to know if there are any nursing jobs in Ft. Lauderdale that fit this criteria:

Eight hour shifts

No weekends

No holidays

I realize it might be less pay. I have no choice because I am a single mom. I moved up to Wisconsin to go to school. Now that I am finishing I would love to move back home to Florida. I did some research and it seems the only jobs available for a two-year degree are 12-hour hospital jobs. Although I work in a hospital now, I won't be able to do the 12-hour shifts and every other wknd.

Please let me know if there are any other options for me. Thank you. :)

Stay! There are no jobs here in Florida....I have my license for three months now and no job...Get the job first before you move.

There are few jobs in FL whatsoever, much less for new grads, and even harder for the hours that you request. Positions with those hours in a hospital would be for senior nurses, or specialities.

Have you tried MD offices or clinics?

I have tried everywhere. I have sent out hundreds of application but to no avail. It is so hard to get a job. One has to know someone in the hospital to get a job there for the most part...sighs..:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Well thank you so much for your advice! It is helping me make some critical decisions about my future. Luckily I have a hospital job for me so as a new grad, I will be able to transition into that role and get experience that way. I really don't want to work in a hospital, I would rather work in a dr.'s office, eating disorder clinic, detox center, I'd even take a nursing home if it meant not working weekends or holidays! Are there jobs in these areas of nursing down there? If so-- how do I apply to them? How do I find them? Again -- thank you for the advice!

Yup, stay for at least a year, get this magical one year experience, preferably in Med/Surg or ICU.. Then you might have a chance. I have my license since March, over 200 applications later I had 2 interviews.. I didn't get a job after the first one, still waiting on the second one (they told me that they have scheduled interviews during the whole week and they will tell me next week if they'd decide to choose me). I really keep my fingers crossed, because I really loved the place. But everyone needs recent experience. My 5 years 10 years ago in another country do not count, I'm a new grad. lol :(

If I didn't have a child, I'd leave my husband here and move to MN.

the only way to avoid weekends & holidays is 1-Dr's office, 2-school nurse throught the health department, however those are dwindling down as it's cheaper to have a health room aid than it is to have an RN sitting in the schools. Some hospitals still run 8 hr shifts, mainly Psych units, but it's still weekends & holidays, even home health & hospice are weekend & holiday positions. Hopefully you can find a reliable sitter for your child because you chose a profession that is open 24 hrs a day 7 days a week for 52 weeks out of the year lol the type of job you are looking for is out there, but it's an elusive creature, especially for a new grad.

Well I have to be honest, it is disappointing to hear this news, but again thank you to all that have replied. I do appreciate it. It's just really difficult living somewhere you hate but unfortunetly it doesn't seem I will have the opportunity to move back home anytime soon. Thank you again.
