Relocating to Texas

Published

I am planning to relocate Texas (not sure what city? maybe San Antonio, Dallas and Houston) at the end of the year. I came from Cailfornia where has patient ratio law, good wages but no way I can afford purchasing a house. Can anyone tell me about the usual staffing ratio in a med surg /tele unit in Texas? And how about the cultural diversity? For me wage is not the most important, supportive and nice working environment are the most top priority.

All she needs to do is send a letter disputing the info to group one under the FCRA - they have to investigate - I would enclose whatever evidence she has in writing with the letter. If she invoked safe harbor she has legal recourse as long as she followed the prooper procedure. If she documented everything then she has recourse, she just needs to act on it.

She tried, and in the meantime no job, no money coming in , a disabled husband and mortgage due.

I have wittnessed many violations of practices and standards here, including several violations of the Nurse Practice Act, which were condoned by a manager.

I have reported them, and have never heard back from anyone.

As frustrating as it is - no BON is going to inform you of the outcome of any investigation. In fact they won't even tell you they are investigating. Or not. It's like reporting child abuse to CPS - unless the law shows up at the door across the street to arrest the parents, or it makes the evening news the chances of you ever hearing anything about it are slim. That's pretty standard operating procedure.

The BON is not in business to help or protect nurses. They never have been and they never will be. They do not advocate for nursing. They protect the public from potential harm by nurses. That is their chief mission and that is the job they are paid to do with taxpayers money. They regulate nursing, but they do not protect nursing. I think that distinction is important because many nurses do not understand that. I had a professor who put it this way: "The BNE is NOT your friend and if you think they are, you are sadly mistaken". SUmmed it up for me pretty well!

Tell me something I don't know.:uhoh3:

I stated that I reported violations of the nurse practice act. I did this in order to protect the public from potential harm by nurses and allied health personnel.

I have a source and know for a fact that the (on going)violations have never been investigated.

Please read before replying. I am not one of those idiots who thinks that BONs are here to protect nurses.

And I would request the same consideration - you will note that I did not say that you believed that or that you were an idiot. Please don't take what I post personally - I am not posting these things just for you, there are many other people here and I have had the experience (on this board in fact) that some believe that the BON is supposed to stand up for nurses.
