Hi,

I am an RN in the ER here in Miami. My husband has decided he wants to move. But, we don't know what island is for us. Are there plenty of nursing jobs in Hawaii? We will be coming to visit in Oct. Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Can you tell me what it is like down there? ie good hospitals vs bad ones? I am a canadian RN who would love to try Miami (med/surg) mostly ortho trauma. Also, what parts of Miami are good? Travel cos - thinking of going w/ preferred or Medical express. THANKS for any info

HI,

Where do I start about Miami?! First your asking someone who is trying despretly to move! If you have never been here I would try a travel/temp position first. Miami is the kind of place you either hate it or love it. The pay is the lowest in the states, most of the hospitals the nurses are treated like crap. (from what I've been told from friends) I work for a private hospital and we have alot of admin. problems. However, Jackson the public hospital I heard treats their nurses good and they are paid more. Also, there is the option of working in broward county. Alot of our nurses are quiting and going up there to the new hospitals. And then you are not that far from the miami life if thats what you are looking for. You also have the "people" element. 80% is hispanic and you get all kinds of econonomical groups and they treat us like s*&t. I was just assualted last night!

I have also known alot of foreign nurses who come from canada and austraila and they have turned around and left. and others have stayed.

Areas to live in are (Quiet)south miami, kendall, miami lakes, doral, country walk (hip spots) aventura, miami beach. Stay away from, North miami, opalocka, hialeah, overtown, downtown,

feel free to email me and i will tell you where i work and some other hospitals.

I went to Hawaii on a vacation a year ago. In the Honolulu area newspapers I saw some ads for nurses but not very much. I would not want to live in Honolulu, Hawaii. It's great for a fun vacation but I wouldn't want to live in such an expensive overcrowded area. Good luck! :)
