I have been accepted to Maria College for their Nursing program. I am currently an LPN. I need information on the program. If anyone is or going there please give me some in-put. Thanks

I will reply- even though I never went to Maria- so my knowledge is based on what Ive heard-
Ive heard that they have a really low passing rate for the NCLEX exam, and that the area hospitals would rather hire graduates from any other school than Maria. Sorry..
Did you ever try Albany Memorial or Samaritan hospitals nursing program? They have an LPN to RN transition.. I did it, and recommend it.. its very hands on.. it takes 12 months
good luck

I graduated from Maria College last year and I think the program was wonderful. Seems like Maria has a bad rep but it's all hype. They increased the pass/fail grade to 77 percent which is higher than some other schools. The NCLEX rate has improved as well. In my class I can only think of 2 people who had to retake the NCLEX. Go with your gut and if you do decide to go to Maria good luck. Oh and don't listen to the junk about area hospitals not wanting to hire Maria grads - I was offered several different jobs last spring without difficulty.

I'm a lil confused. I live in Albany and never heard of Samaritan nor Albany memorial offering a 12 month transition course from LPN to RN. If this is true, I would have did this yesterday. Do u happen to have a link with this info?

Do not go to Maria college in Albany. I have heard way too many comlaints. First of all they are private. A girl i knew left that school because they were teaching outdated information, were biased and very expensive. She even had to see the director because her 'instructor' failed her when she had passed her course. I know another woman who has lost about 15000 dollars. She started Biology but her 'instructor' said 'Take notes, I don't use books'. Wish we could destroy this kind of fraud. When they take your education for a joke! Maria was a good school years ago. It seems new management has run this school down.

DO NOT GO TO MARIA COLLEGE IN ALBANY! Their nursing program is a complete waste of your time and money. I just finished my senior semester and was supposed to graduate this May. Little did I realize that the extra credit points you earn by going to collaborative after each test, are useless to you unless you already have a grade of 77. In the normal world, a 74 is considered passing and those extra points are usually used to get someone over a hump. Who cares if you have an 80 final grade and then with your points get an 83. I wound up with a 74 final grade and thought that my 3.5 extra credit points would push me up to the 77 needed to graduate, but that was not the case. Going to collaborative is a complete waste of your time, wish they would have told me this during the program. To make things worse, the dean tells us all in March to apply for RN jobs and send in our nursing application, so I do and have a job lined up as a float nurse to start May 24th. I tell my current job I am leaving so they found a replacement for me, and now they fail me over 3 points. Albany Med also lost out and they were mad when I had to call and cancel my start date. Its true that hospitals around here are weary about hiring maria students. You get to the end and then they find some way to screw you over. I feel completely used by this program and wouldnt recomment anyone waste their time there. The teaching is horrible and the communication between all the instructors is awful. Trust me, go someplace else and believe all the bad things you hear about this school - its all true, I witnessed it.
All of you students need to keep your outlines, contracts and school info and seek legal action. I am sick of hearing of students who are getting screwed and are nto even attempting to fight! Please see somone about that school.

Wow, I am very surprised to read such negative comments about Maria College.
I graduated with my ASN from there in 2001-it had the best reputation in the area.
Before I applied I asked many nurses and doctors about which school they thought was best for nursing, time and again the answer was Maria College. I was actively recruited and hired by St Peter's Hosp and went right into St Peter's Critcal care program for new grads.......
I passed my boards on the first attempt. The NCXLEX pass rate when I attended was over 90%.....
During clinicals, the nurses said the hospital preferred Maria College grads because they were well prepared.
Is it possible the school has changed so drastically in such a short time? Or is it sour grapes?
I don't know but I suggest you speak to local hospitals and their nurses directly to get their impression of Maria College grads and grads from different schools in the area.
Wherever you decide to attend, make sure you are getting your money's worth.
Good luck.
