Hi all!
New to the forum…not sure how to start a new thread.
Just starting the excelsior program. I only have the nursing courses to take. Preparing to take the health safety exam, hopefully before the end of the month…the content guide seems rather overwhelming…but manageable.
Will appreciate if I could get an answer to this question.
If a pt has an apical pulse of 62 prior to administration of Digoxin –what do you do?
I will hold the med, since an apical pulse of 62 is borderline. Not sure if this is a good answer choice.
Thanks;)

I would also hold the dig. however I would follow the MD Order since most of them would include when to hold it which is below 60
thanks for your input tasha & westpalm!
oops.. trying to get used to posting on these threads...sorry for the triple entry...
i agree that holding the digoxin for an apical pulse of 62, will be a practical thing to do, given a parameter.
however, if a parameter is not given what will be a reasonable thing for the nurse to do in theory, knowing that 62 is a borderline?
still kind of struggling with this one, as there's no other information given.
the question was asked in the health safety review cd from studygroup101.
i’ll just post this question again in the general discussion board to get other point of views. thanks:)

Digoxin order with apical pulse of 62.
No parameters given in question, so treat as none given.
Give the med then call MD for order clarification.
Asking for parameters at this time to avoid multiple calls to notify MD of lack of parameters.
