Great to have you here, aspiringtoB, and welcome to AN:up: Is definitely the place to be, full of excellent tips/advise! I agree 100%, I too have found AN to be very informative! Yes, let us know how is going when you start with Sherri's; I too plan on doing the same next week. Just ordered Sherri's flash cards, and also received my EC skills kit yesterday from the company they recommend. Yep! I'm sure you will pass first time as many have, would be nice to keep the trend. Good luck as you prepare! You can do this!:)

Base on my understanding so far--Sheri’s online workshop is presented via recorded videos. I did not use her RN bridge program for my theory exams, so I really can’t speak to that. But, I agree that she does have positive reviews, and has a high passing rate! Can’t recall which thread, but I did read a comment here on AN where a student stated “Sheri will be with you from start to finish” so, I guess that includes answering whatever question(s) you submit. As far as careplan goes, Sheri is the "careplan queen," from what I have gathered. Not to put you off, I have also read that a lot of the questions like you have asked here, can be addressed by Sherri directly, which I think is great. As far as Rob’s videos are concern, most are recommending the mnemonics which they have found helpful for the CPNE. It seems like the mnemonics cannot be bought separately from the videos. But, I have decided to add it as part of my resource for this exam. Another important thing to note as advised by most successful students, is to follow the CPNE guide closely, while using any of these outside resources as they might just be missing something. as well as calling the ECE staff every chance I was allowed with my questions.. But, word to the wise, if you call them with a question then they know what your weaknesses are..For example, Respiratory Management. Don't be to shock if you see it in the actual cpne.. .....LOL... :)

Awesome! Glad to know, didn't know about that. My plan is to read the guide from cover to cover, and then focus on the critical elements portion of the guide. So glad to know that EC will review careplans for free. Thanks for the advise! :)

Seems like Rob's mnemonics is an added bonus, since you're recommending it, I think I will consider adding it to my CPNE prep and pay attention to the corrections as indicated. Thanks for the advice! :)

Thanks for the advice, and you are right about always checking to verify the info correlates with the CPNE study guide, as I have read some threads confirming your statement about "some things are missing." Good advice! I'll follow through:)

Thanks everyone for the great advice! I’ll definitely sign up with Sheri. I see some mentioned Rob’s workshop and I’m curious if the techniques differ compared with Sheri’s online videos. I just want to get familiar and comfortable with one that relates well to the 18th edition. Is it possible to get Rob’s mnemonics only without the added videos? For those who used Sheri & Rob’s videos, how do they differ? Need some convincing to purchase Rob’s in addition to signing up for Sheri’s online workshop. I know everyone learns differently, but I’m a little concern there might be conflicts/variations in techniques. I also plan on taking the Beginning CPNE Preparation, Nursing Care Planning, Documentation, & Skills, the online CPNE conferences; that Excelsior offers. Congratulations on your achievements for all those who have passed the CPNE!!! Great Job! And for those just beginning, like myself, say to yourself, you can do it!

Congrats on your achievements thus far! Excelsior nursing program is a wonderful program as it allows the student the time to complete the exams while meeting other life obligations, however, it is by no means an "easy" program. You are responsible for the materials given in the content guide, it is a self-taught program, but highly doable with commitment from the student. There's a thread on this forum titled "Getting started with Excelsior College" which has some excellent tips/advice from past and current students, you may want to review that to get yourself acquainted with the program, as everyone completes the program at different times. Just starting to prepare for CPNE and was wondering if anyone has used Sheri's online workshop "solely" and passed. I would have loved to attend a live workshop but can't afford the traveling expenses and all.... would like to get some input/advice, please. ~Thanks in advance :-)

I agree with bhanson, about doing what's best for you & also maintaining yr GPA. Depending on the school you're seeking entrance, most nursing schools tend to evaluate your science grades ONLY, in addition to any adopted entrance exam, e.g. NLN, ATI, and use that as an indication of how well you're likely to perform in their program. So, making a good grade & maintaining a high GPA is key for admission. When I did my sciences at my local CC, I made sure I combined a science & a humanity, or two humanity courses, and a science. Didn't think doing two science courses with labs, was an ideal thing to do at the time, again that's just me. However, you'll find out that science courses are comprehensive & can be demanding, (quizzes/testing theory & labs on different days, writing lab reports, class participation- reading materials before class) requires more focus to get a good grade. tms1980, i agree with you that the tone of chin up's response seems rather harsh. but, i just wanted to clarify what i believe the original poster meant --also, since the original poster is a new nurse she would benefit from it. from my understanding of the situation, the original poster's seems to be aware of the incident the same day it happened, ("well last tuesday she fell but it was not notified to me. i was speaking to a restorative aide that day and she asked me what happened to resident a i said nothing, why, and she proceeded to tell me that resident b told her that resident a got dropped.") though, not directly reported by the cnas. but by the restorative aide that day. original poster, stated she questioned the cnas, then went on to assess pt ("so i go and look at resident a head no bumps noted resident didnt complain of any headaches."). the original poster does admit to have made a mistake by not following up with an incident report, after assessing pt. ("and this is where i screw up, i didnt fill out a incident report and 1 week later her leg is swelling and bruising noted.") i agree that the cnas, were trying to hide the fall, generally, cnas, are in-serviced about what to do when a pt falls, & proper techniques for transfer. same is true for the nurses; nurses generally are in-serviced by the facility on their fall/incident protocols. it is clear that the original poster accepts full responsibility for neglecting to follow the facility protocol. however, i don't believe the original poster is a mean nurse. though, her actions may be construed as abusive by way of neglect; for failing to follow standard protocol. remember the old saying "if its not documented, it wasn't done." even a 24 hour nurses communication log, will assist in monitoring pt for 72hrs, ....but it took 1wk.
