Registered Nurse trying to move to Germany

Published

Hi, I am about to finish my 4-year bachelors of science degree in Nursing. I go to McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. My fiance however grew up in Germany and has been waiting for me to finish so we can both go and live in Germany. I have been learning a little bit of German, mainly through Rosetta stone, but this year I plan on going to a school that teaches German part time. My question is, does anyone know if i would be able to get a job with my degree. Or is there any other tests that i would have to prepare for, and especially is the pay significantly different than if i were to stay and work in Canada.

There was a German nurse who was posting for a while. She's migrated to the Yukon.

From what I remember, you need to be fluent in written and spoken German and it's up to their governing body if you can nurse over there.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

There are a few threads discussing Germany and if I remember rightly you will have to apply locally and transcripts need to be translated into German

Specializes in ED, Cardiology.

I know this is a little late response. There not many openings for German nurses (Krankenschwestern) in Germany. As a "foreign" educated nurse you would have it super difficult (just my thought). I have applied in the past to go back overseas as a governmental employee (and I am German) and have not had any luck.

Good luck to you
