? Regarding License Renewal

Heys guys,

new to the forum. i have a quick question regarding my license renewal. I graduated RN school in may 06. I had something happen which was beyond my control and in order to have a chance to keep my nursing license i chose what is known as a pre-trial intervention. Basically it's probation, regular probation not nursing probation and after you complete it, the charge is expunged off your record.

I completed my fingerprinting in may 06. passed the boards in july 06 about 2weeks after i went to court. I've never had a problem getting a job and passing background checks so i'm assuming nothing has shown up. I competed the program and it has been expunged off my criminal record.

When i look at the status of my license it comes back "Active" and Board Action "None".

My question is in regards to the renewal process. My license is up for renewal may 30th 2008 and about 2weeks ago i submitted my app online but still haven't recieved my license in the mail.

Do they redo the criminal background process? If nothing is showing up on my criminal record should i be worried?

questions we seem to be encountering more and more often have to do with the effects of a criminal history on nursing licensure:

  • is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a criminal history and if so, can i get a job?
  • is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a mip, dui, or other related charges?
  • what happens if you are charged or convicted of a crime after licensure?
  • can i go to nursing school and/or be licensed/be employed if my record has been sealed or expunged?
  • will i be able to go to nursing school and/or attend clinicals with a criminal record?
  • what can happen if i receive a mip/dui/dwi or other charge while still in school?

these are questions that the members of allnurses.com cannot answer. the only reliable source of information is your state board of nursing.
