refresher courses/ internship for NICU RN that has been out for 5+ yrs

HI all!

Seeking any information regarding refresher courses or even NICU internships that are offered by hospitals in the Portland, OR area. Moved to Portland a year ago. Been out 5+ years to raise the family and now want to go back into my niche. Have a CA RN active license....understand I have to endorse my license, etc. So find refresher courses first, re-cert with NRP and CPR classes then endorse license???? Refresher courses I heard are more geared towards Med-Surg. Any hospital that will take an RN with previous expereience and offer NICU internship or preceptorship program? Willing to do anything to gain entry back in the NICU field...however, seeking another venue into lactation consultant perhaps! Which path do I take or where do I start? Thanks in advance for your help!

I would check with the CA BON for their requirements. I hadn't worked for 5 years and went to get my AZ license by endorsement from WI and it was mandatory that I take a refresher course selected by the state to get my license. Yes, mostly med surg and "adult" diseases which I hadn't done since school! But, you can do it - it's like riding a bike - once you get on, it all comes back.

As far as NICU - seems as if units here are looking for NICU nurses with recent experience, which is within the last couple of months.

Oops, meant to say check with Oregon BON....
