Who did you use for your references when applying for CNM school? I am applying Fall 2016 admission, and the requirements are 3 professional references. I am considering asking one or two of the OBGYN I work with (I work L&D), but not quite sure how to ask. There are several charge nurses I could ask who know about my work as a nurse, plus my desire to become a CNM, but I wasn't sure if that would be "professional enough". Would love to hear your thoughts! (PS ignore any typing errors, sticky keys!)
Thanks,
Katie

I had 1 OB who was supportive of midwifery in general and me becoming a midwife, 1 charge nurse, my unit supervisor, and 1 instructor from my previous degree.

Choose references that can speak about your ability to: A) function professionally in a healthcare environment and B) think critically during high-stress situations, and C) handle the academic rigor of graduate school. I have never had an MD provide my references, even when applying for hospital privileges. All of my references have been RN's, CNM's, ARNP's, or Doctorate level faculty.

I agree, your charge nurse is a great reference. I solicited references from my MD colleagues and preceptors when I was applying to CNM jobs, but I don't believe I used any for my application to CNM school. I was lucky to work with some CNMs who provided references for me, but I included one from my nursing supervisor and another from the director of a clinic I used to work at (but I'll admit the latter is a mildly famous person, which was part of my reason for soliciting a recommendation from her, lol. Not a good reason!).
