Recruiters vs straight hire from the hospital

Published

Hi,

I'm a new RN who just passed the board last month. What's the difference between going under a recruiter and having them look for a job for you vs getting hired directly by the hospital? If the recruiter finds a job for you, does that mean they get a certain percentage from your salary?

Based on my non-hospital experiences: with reputable recruitment agencies, the recruiter gets paid for their services by the hiring organization. You should not have to pay anything for it.

I'm not sure how it differs for a hospital though.

That's correct - recruiters are always paid by the company that is doing the hiring. Do NOT EVER pay anyone who says they can get you a job.... it's a scam.

No one uses recruiters to find staff nurses in my part of the country - even when the economy was better. They are only used for specialty and Mgr/Exec roles.

do recruiters find jobs for new grads? whenever a recruiter calls me and heard im a new grad, they started to sound different.

they usually have a contracted "finders fee" from the employer...... I would go straight hire if the $s and everything else is "right"
