Recovery Room Nurse??

Specialties Operating Room

Hey everyone. I've been working nights on a very busy Ortho/Neuro/Medical overflow floor for a year now and I'm desperately looking for a change. There's a position in Recovery that's open that I'm thinking about applying for and I was wondering what's it typically like working in recovery. Do you think my experience would be good for working in recovery? Any info would be great! Thanks

I think you may get more responses from a PACU specialty thread, but from what I know of PACU positions, they typically require ICU experience.

I was a circulator for a year and transferred to the PACU and have been ther for about six months and I love it. I have very little floor experience. Im sorry but in my opinion nursing is nursing. all the other details you will learn. wheather you learn then in ICU or PACU, you are still learning. Just remember airway, breathing, circulation, and the other stuff you will learn. Hope this helps

I went straight from a med/surg floor to the PACU. I LOVED IT!!! PACU was a great learning experience and I will always value that time. I think you will really enjoy it.

I went from a tele floor to PACU. My preceptor had been an ICU nurse for a long time before she went to PACU so I was very lucky to have her. I worked PACU for over three years and I miss it. Although where I am working now they've pulled me to PACU a few times to help out on busy days...I miss where I worked. I always say that if I'd known before hand what PACU was, I may not have applied and wow I would have missed out on an awesome experience. :) It is very competitive these days though, so keep that in mind. Most positions do go to ICU nurses and a lot of openings even state that. Over the past few years I've even noticed that many PACU jobs are for internal applicants only. Good Luck!
