Recommended software for Windows Based pocket pc

Nursing Students General Students

Published

I have a HP ipaq pocket pc and am looking for software that runs with their format (Windows). I am currently a nursing student and need some suggestions. I looked at pda cortex and others and they seem to run on the Palm OS. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate!

epocrates (sp) is good I hear for drug interaction and general pharm.

do a search on google ;)

Specializes in Trauma ICU, MICU/SICU.

Warning ePocrates does not support memory cards. Which means that big honkin' program will be in your internal memory (may or may not support PPC).

http://skyscape.com has lots of software in both Palm & PPC. I purchased Taber's Med. Dict., and Davis Drug Guide (both req'd texts for my program) and RNNotes. Because I purchased 3 progs, I got a 20% discount. In addition, once you open one program, you can "link" or jump right into another w/o having to go back to your start menu (main screen palm).

All 3 are available in PPC format. And I find all three very useful.

Take care,

Sorry to hijack the thread but... I'm still trying to decide between getting a PPC and a Palm based PDA. I'm leaning more towards the Palm only because I heard that most of the healthcare/medi related programs are for Palm OS? Anyone know?

There is quite a bit available for PPC. However, one thing to consider is that PPC files are HUGE. For example, Taber's Medical dictionary is a 12.2mb file on Palm OS. For PPC, it is 21.1mb! You can see where your memory would disappear very quickly.

They do make expansion cards up to 512mb, but they're pretty pricey.

Hope this helps swing you over to the palm side o' the fence. :D

And, hope I haven't scared you to death TobeinKC. :)

Better, get to studyin' while sleepin' baby rests.

Thanks Suemom, I think I'm sold on the Palm! (I knew you'd have something useful to add to this thread! LOL) :)

I have listed a few sites below. Sometimes the software says it runs on Pocket PC's and sometimes it says Windows CE, both will work on an iPAQ. I really like mine! Skyscape has the best software but it is expensive. The free epocrates only runs on Palms.
