Recommendations for Pre-req order at Georgia Perimeter College?

Hey! I am taking prereqs at GPC now. I am currently in A&P 1 and I will be taking A&P 11 in the spring. You can take your classes based on what you can handle. For me, I am having to do each separately because I work full-time and I want to make sure I give each class its due as far a time spent studying. Some people take both A&P 11 and Micro together. I know in my class, there is a girl taking Chem 2 and A&P 1 now. She seems to be doing okay too. As far as taking supplemental classes, if you really want to take one, I would do Human Growth and Development. I know GPC doesn't require it but some other schools do.

I am taking A&P at the Decatur Campus.

Micro has a pre-req of A&P II listed at GPC, so I don't know how you would be able to take them together, even putting aside how intensive both of these courses are. Especially if you are planning to go to a school other than GPC for nursing - the goal is to ace these classes, not finish them as fast as possible. Of course if you can do both, more power to you! I've found that balancing the science classes with the other core requirements work best for me. I'm taking A&P with Stats, World History, Growth and Development; and I will take Micro with my humanities elective, critical thinking, and anthropology. Just a couple examples of how I split mine up at GPC. :)

You are correct, Psych classes will help you immensely, as will critical thinking ( it's a philosophy course), as most nursing exams are NCLEX style questions that require a great deal of critical thinking. (I.e. All the answer choices are correct - you have to choose the best answer...a lot of students seem to struggle with these types of exams at first, so that course will definitely benefit you.)

Also, be aware that sciences (or math) in the summer can be rough. It's only 7 weeks vs 13, but you cover the same amount of material. Be mindful of that when planning your summer schedule. My husband took two upper level sciences in the summer, and I swear he never slept! Haha.

Yeah, I'm probably gonna take my sciences one at a time because those are the foundation of it all, and i really want to absorb them thoroughly. ...and I definitely don't want a "race to the finish" kinda mentality. I just need to be as efficient as possible with my class schedules.

Luckily, my previous degree takes care of all the core classes. Phew!

I figure I'll aim to take the first few psych classes (at least intro, abnorm and growth/develop) and maybe first aid/cpr. I think it might be good to take the whole line of Spanish if there's time.

Anyway, it's a lot to think about, but I'm ready for it! :)

You say that you know you have to take A&P I and II and Micro before getting into the nursing program. Just to clarify, you can apply to the program after taking A&P I. There are several nursing students in my Microbiology class this semester at GPC. They probably prefer that you finish the pre-reqs before starting the program, but there are quite a few nursing students who don't.

I think taking APII and Micro together would be REALLY tough! And most schools require APII before micro just like GPC does. Maybe I'll see you in some of my classes...I'll be going back to school to pursue nursing (again) this spring 2013. I have a bachelor's degree in Business. I'm taking API, Intro Psych, Chem II, and Stats. Do you think that is a doable load? I am resigning from my job tomorrow to pursue school and nursing full time! I will apply to nursing programs this coming spring to potentially get in for spring 2014.

That's totally doable! I am also taking Stats and A&P I this spring. What campus are you attending? Since you're not working, you should have plenty of time for Chem and A&P.. Intro psych is fairly easy, especially if you take it online.
