They are looking for critical care nurses.(I am sure a lot of you nurses from Pennsylvania got the flyer) The pitch is mostly emotional with no reference to pay for benefits. Under rewards it mentions hugs and kisses from children. You know that IS very rewarding and people who work with children are a very special bunch. I can't help but wonder if they would get a better response by being a little more concrete. I have heard that Children's is quite competitive pay wise but I don't know that. Either way it does not matter to me because I am not cut out to be a pediatric nurse. web site is:http://www.chp.edu

I got the same one. It reminded me of the "only you can save the starving children in . . .name the third world country" ads you see on tv.
As for the pay, many people I know who work/have worked there say that the hospital thinks that the honor of working for Children's is payment enough. They're really the only ped's game in town and they know it. If you want peds, you're pretty much stuck. There's really no reason for them to pay well. They count on people's love of peds to keep them in jobs paying less.
I read between the lines of that flyer.(what else are you to think when they tell you your reward is hugs and kisses) I thought it implied that pay was not so good at Childrens. That suprised me because I thought all UPMC made about the same. This poster and several private messages indicate that is not the case.

I heard they had a sign on bonus of $8,000. & I know someone who works in the ICU there part time and makes $33 an hour. I thought that was good.

I also received the flier but since Children's is a UPMC facility I just threw mine in the trash. I know a few nurses that worked there and there is a reason they pay well, but not well enough.
