I'm sick of all the negative posts, so I thought I'd start a positive one to help offset the negativity.
There is a huge variety in nursing; if I get tired of one thing I can move on to the next. I will always have a job. I've never took a travel position, but look forward to taking one in the future. I get to come to this cool site.
Everyone add something positive. Please keep negatives for another thread.

I absolutely LOVE being a nurse! I work L&D and it's an honor and a privilige to help women bring their babies into the world. I wanted to be a nurse my whole life but had kids first then became a nurse at 30. It's been 10 years and I still get a thrill when I start an IV or explain something to a pt and they get it.
When I've been off for a few days I always look forward to going back. Sometimes I'll be at work and think "WOW, I can't believe I'm getting paid for this!
I love the challenges of nursing, continued change and new adventures. It is a profession that will not get mundane as there are so many avenues one can take in it. I agree with so much of the above stated reasons. I too feel it to be a privelge to be able to associate with intelligent people who are focusing on the many facets of our profession in order to be able to better treat our patients. I love the evenings after work when I am walking to my car, when I feel a sense of pride, just to have the privelge to be a nurse.
Why I will love being a nurse...............
As a tech., I get many thanks now, but I see many more thanks going to the RNs (and so they should!!!) I see how people look at nurses and there reactions when I tell them that I will be an RN soon. They all are very encouraging and it is a very rewarding field. Yes you do have those patients who just rub you the wrong way, but its that one patient who makes all of those bad memories disappear. I feel that people look up to nurses and look to nurses for a kind of safe haven. One thing I have learned through school is that I love educating people, I feel that when they have a question and are scared/anxious about something and I am able to answer their question it is very satisfying. I can't wait to be an RN with my own autonomy and broad knowledge base!!! Plus, I have met the most interesting people working in the health field. When working in the health field, you truly do work with EVERYONE, from ALL walks of life.
I love it when my kids proudly say, "My mom can help, she's an ER nurse".
I love the feeling of watching what I do for someone really make a difference in their pain or fear.
I love helping send drunk drivers off with the police, and OFF THE ROAD!
I love holding a little kid who is scared and hurting, and watching him calm down and cope just because I'm there to talk him down.

Being a home care nurse in the town I grew up in really made me feel part of my community. Now, as I drive around town, I not only remember the places I played as a child, but I see houses all over town where my patients live, and I think about them. They are a bridge to the past, too. One patient shared her memories of her mother's farm and produce stand. Another lived in an oddly-shaped building I had always wondered about. It turned out to be a Quonset hut from a WWII miltary base that had been dragged down the trolley tracks - when those still existed here - and turned into a house after the war was over. Amazing!
