Reapplying

I got into an RN program this past semester. I did well in clinical, but failed by 5 points in theory. I did have some circumstances involving a learning disability and new meds.

I am reapplying, but the C- dropped me from 3.3 to 3.1 since it was a 7 credit course. I am applying at new schools and considering LPN as fall back, but I do not want to get paid less for the same job as RN.

Any suggestions on RN, and those that went RN from LPN are appreciated. I am located in upstate NY, in the Rochester area.

Unfortunately I am not able to edit my posts, as I saw the typo after submission. Once again another unpleasant, narcissist who is so egotistical that they cannot stand to be compared to an LPN in any capacity. I'm well aware of the differences between the two. The reality is that they often perform the same tasks when they are not supposed to.

Good luck in whatever you do, and by that I mean I pray to god not to end up in your facility.

For crying out loud; read the whole post before commenting. My previous posts inferred that LPNs and RNs do the same BASIC tasks on a regular basis. Due to staff shortages LPNs DO perform the same tasks, which they are NOT supposed to do. It's clear from the amount of posts complaining about semantics that there is A LOT of shame in regards to becoming an LPN versus an RN. Holy cow! Even if I aced everything in RN school I'm beginning to wonder if I'm making a mistake by going into a toxic work environment with so many terrible coworkers.

Ok, I'm in the Rochester area. And I'm a professor. Here's what I can tell you, specific to the region. As an LPN, your employment opportunities will be in LTC, some office practices, and some hospital-associated clinics.

As an associate degree-prepared nurse, the two largest local hospital systems will require that you provide written evidence of matriculation into an RN-BS completion program prior to hire.

Consider checking the online nurse recruitment postings for Univ Rochester/Strong/Highland, and Rochester Regional Health for inpatient and outpatient opportunities.

Finally, do not confuse tasks that LPNs and RNs may both do with what LPNs and RNs are. No passive aggressive here, just ... advice. Good luck to you.
