Reapplying to a facility you've previously been let go from...

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Has anyone else done this? A year ago I was let go from a facility, I had just had my 5 yr anniversary the week prior and had worked at a sister facility for 5 yrs prior to starting at this facility. Being let go was a complete shock not only to me but to my immediate supervisor and coworkers as well. My supervisor did not agree with the decision to let me go and actually refused to be there when they called me into the DON's office, she left for the day before it happened. Since that time all the people who were involved in my dismissal are gone except the HR director. The NHA resigned, the DON walked out, and the nurse manager was fired. There is now a new DON, NHA, nurse manager, and ADON. The ADON was actually a floor nurse who I worked with quite a bit. Any ways, my old supervisor has been asking me to come back and I finally got up the nerve to reapply, I received a call this morning, the DON wants to set up an interview next week. I'm actually really nervous about this. When I was let go I was never given a straight answer as to why. The DON initially said I was being let go because there were times that I hadn't used the time clock to punch in, I has used the missed punch log. When I repeated what she said the HR director jumped in and said they had decided this was an attendance occurrence and because I had received a final written warning for being absent this was my final occurrence. But than a few moments later they went back to saying I violated the attendance policy. My dismissal form that I had to sign stated I was being let go for my attendance but the dismissal letter stated it was due to a violation in policy. During my unemployment appeal they stated it was because I had been using the missed punch log to enter in earlier start times and even went on to state that I had received previous warnings regarding this, which was all untrue. The dates that were given as to when I had received these "warnings" were dates that I wasn't even in the building! And as for the attendance claim, I reviewed the policy after I was let go and was not in violation of the policy and should have never even been issued a written warning as I did not have enough absences to warrant a warning. So I don't know how to answer the question "why were you let go?". My feeling is that the management at the time was trying to do away with LPNs working full time on the day shift (I was the only LPN on days), the DON at the time had just recently been hired and had never even acknowledged my presence, no joke. Never said hello to me, never even looked at me! Yet was super friendly towards the rest of the day shift nurses. After I was let go my position was filled in less than a week with an RN, the position was never posted internally or on the company website, which is why I believe they were just trying to replace me with an RN. So anyways, fast forward to now, all new upper management besides the HR director and an upcoming interview that I'm pretty nervous about!
