No, I didn’t burn any bridges. We had a wrap up session at the end of the summer with the nurse manager and the clinical educator on the floor and they were happy with my performance. We had a choice to work PRN on the floor when we were finished with the extern program but I wasn’t able to do It with the pregnancy. Like you said, I can at least try and see what happens.

I really didn’t leave too much out pertaining to the nurse extern program. That went fine and I didn’t burn any bridges. I left out information concerning why I had to reapply to my nursing program which had no bearing on the nurse extern program. The reason I had to reapply was due to the fact that the undergraduate coordinator and dean of my program felt that since I decided to withdraw on medical leave (pregnancy), I was sitting out too long to just jump back into the program where I started. I still don’t think It was totally fair but I’m not mad because It has allowed me to go over concepts that I didn’t learn or missed the first time.

I wanted to get other's opinions on this situation. I was rewarded the opportunity to be a nurse extern back in 2015 at a children's hospital in my area. My plan was to gain employment there after I finished nursing school. However, I failed my med-surg class that Fall after I had completed the nurse extern program and I had to reapply to my program (I'm leaving out some parts on why I had to reapply to make this short but basically I ended up pregnant when it was time for me to retake the course and I made the decision to sit out instead of fail out of the program). Now, I am back in the program with only 3 more semesters left (yeah!). I would like to reapply to be a nurse extern at the same hospital again since I'm still in love with pediatric nursing. I'm just scared that since I did the program before that I will not be allowed to do it again. Should I try to reapply for the program or should I go another route such as become a part-time PCT at the hospital?
