Ready to tackle MSN-but want the easy way

Updated:   Published

I think I am ready to tackle my MSN. I have a BSN degree and practice full time. I am pretty sure I want a nursing leadership program. I have not taken nursing informatics or case management off the table either. I don't want to ruffle feathers or make anyone upset with this post. Can anyone offer information about programs that they have experience with that are not as difficult as they thought they were going to be? Please read that as I am looking for programs you thought were easy. I don't want a huge clinical requirement because I work over 40 hours a week. I definitely want an online program. I appreciate any help/information anyone can provide on MSN programs. Thank in advance!!

I have a deal for you:

Come do your preceptorship (or whatever your program calls it) with me!

I will have a grand time.

(Check out my screen name.)

Hmm.....

1. Clearly the programs that you've "heard about" didn't have the comprehensive exam that mine did.

2. I never had to find my own clinicals during my MN program.

Specializes in orthopedic/trauma, Informatics, diabetes.

I have many friends that are in a FNP/APNP and they are having to find their own practicum/preceptors. I am going to the university that my teaching hospital employment is with. I have help getting a connection to a preceptor, but finding the right fit is the key.

Like I posted earlier, my MSN program is about quality not quantity of work, which I like. It is not necessarily hard, but requires lots of critical thinking. I swear that in my BSN program, the instructor just graded on APA formatting, not the material at all.

I am finishing up my Master's at Western Governor's University. They have a Leadership track. I'm doing Education. I'm not going to say it was "easy" but it wasn't very difficult for me because one of my strong areas is writing and the program is writing intensive. I can bust out a 30 page paper in a couple of days. It has taken me on average 1-2 weeks to complete each course. I even was recognized for excellent work on one of my assignments.

I am currently in my Capstone and I officially enrolled Dec 6, 2016. I will be done with the whole program before 6 months. There were no real clinical hours. In my Capstone I am completing a patient education project with a preceptor at my facility. I didn't go into the program thinking it would be this fast or "easy" but it has turned out to be a great experience for me.
