Mark, What interested you in nursing?, where did you see yourself as a nurse, what are your goals? I'm trying to understand if you didn't want hospital or LTF where do your interests lie?? dept or specialty,,,maybe 23 can give you some guidance if we had a greater understanding

Hi GrumpyRN63! I am an RN for 2 years now but due to the oversupply of nurses here in our country, it has been tough looking for a job:cry:. I ended up paying a tertiary hospital to train me for 3 months in the med-surg ward just to somehow get a feel of being a "nurse:nurse:". And just like many of the new nurses, I felt overwhelmed of the workload in the med-surg ward that made me cry during the first day:confused::bluecry1: (and pretty much during most of the days during my training). I applied in that hospital but since there is no vacancy, I have not received any call from them (just like with the other 10+ hospitals I applied in since early last year). At the moment, I am waiting for a call from fresenius to work as a dialysis nurse (they'll train me first for four months).

Anyway, my point why I am writing to you is because you are the first experienced nurse to say that you believe that I need not go through med-surg being a new nurse (I just started reading the forum last week and it is truly addicting...actually, i just signed up an hour ago). Honestly, my anxiety level is high :sofahiderthinking about working in the med-surg ward after what I experienced and witnessed during my 3-month training. For now, I am hoping that I will get employed in Fresenius and become a dialysis nurse, but with a feeling of insecurity of not having a background as a med-surg ward nurse (actual part of the payroll and not just a "trainee") where many said is a good way to really learn being a true nurse.

I have been reading the forum for dialysis nurses and on "first year of nursing" and I am just sooooo relieved that I am not the only one questioning myself about the profession I chose.

I hope to hear more about your opinion regarding new nurses like me who goes straight to a specialized field.

Thank you.:kiss
