Ready to go back and Finish!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am 35 yrs old, I started pursuing a degree in nursing back in 2000. It has been a struggle(family, job, etc) since then. I have a few credits less than 20 towards LPN. I've decided not to let anyone or anything get in my way, but I will pursue and finish this time. I am a member of the Army National Guard, and would like to obtain a degree and hopefully, transfer my job skills(degree) to become an Army Nurse. That is my dream. My background is nursing assistant I have been licensed in the state of Maryland since 1993. I am presently working in the banking/insurance field approximately 3 years experience. I need advice from anyone who may have some knowledge into this drastic career change. HELP!:uhoh3:

I can't speak directly to your situation other than to say that if you look around at past threads/posts, you will see that most of us have come from many other areas that are way beyond health care -- banking, the service, the business world, stay-at-home moms (and dads!), etc., etc....you aren't the only one to ever make a drastic career change and definitely not the last....most of us had very few of the prereqs required to start nursing school and started from scratch!!

The best advise I can give you is to start talking to the colleges you are interested in applying to and go from there...only they can tell you where you stand today, what you need to do to get in to school, and what the requirements will be once you get there!!

Best wishes!!

this thank you is for wdwpixie. I appreciate the encouraging words and it's good to know that I'm not alone. Bernie:lol2:

I am 51, stayed home with my kids for many years; got a bachelor's in business in '99; worked in IT for 6 years; started NS last fall. You're not too old; too late; too far away from a career change or anything....you'll be in GREAT company!! I've seen several posts from people in the military, too, but you'll have to do some digging for those...or create a new post for ex- and current military personnel?

Best wishes....

Bernie,

Best wishes to you. I too after many year decided to go back. I must have decided when I was 35 too. Because now I am 39 and hopefully will get into nursing school this fall. I have spent over 20 years in the banking industry but my life long dream has been to be a nurse. So it is never too late. You also have a nice jump in that you already have some credits completed and you are a nursing assistant. I don't think it is really a drastic change but it is a change and you will need to take the leap and devote yourself 100 percent to achieving your dream. I bet you will find it easier than you think.

welcome back!:balloons:
