Readmission request help

Published

Can anyone help me and review my letter for readmission? It is only the first draft, but I'm really nervous that I won't get back in. Thank you for any help, and critiquing you're greatly appreciated!

"Readmission committee,

I was previously a student in the 2-year ADN program. I would first like to apologize for my academic failure.

I cannot place the blame of my failure on anything, or anyone, but myself. I was only behind by less than two percent, and now wish I would have pushed myself more to get where I needed to be. Coming into my seventh quarter of eight I was not prepared for the amount of content that NUR 265 included. If I had been more prepared, and took more time to go over content to make sure I understood the pathology of each disease process I know I could have done much better in this class. Working five days a week has also head me back in this program. In order to make changes, and improve my learning skills, and study habits I have created a plan to do so. This plan will include actively working with study groups, attending meetings with my academic advisor, and attending each exam review. To resolve my work issue I have decreased my hours to only working three days a week. I'm doing so I will have more time for school which will help me with my academic success. I know everyone goes through tough times, and it is up to me to keep pushing, and working towards my goal of becoming an amazing nurse that I know I can be. My time at Galen has been nothing but a great experience on campus, and at clinicals. With only three to six months left of my education, and being so close to graduation I would love to be able continue my education at Galen. I have no doubt I will finish out the last two quarters strong if given the opportunity to do so.

Thank you for your time,

Kaitlin Ash.

Okay so I'm thinking this is close to my final draft..

Once again any all all feedback, and advice is greatly appreciated. You all have helped me out to much!

"To whom it may concern,

I was previously a student in the Two-Year ADN program. I would first like to apologize for my academic failure, and thank you for reviewing my request for readmission. Previously I had not given myself enough time to study all of the content, and I was also working five days a week. As a result of these factors, I failed the course by less than two percent. This has made me realize I did not hold myself up to the standard I know I am able to achieve. After failing this course I have realized my life, and work schedule was not conductive to the amount of work required to succeed in this course. To improve from my previous academic standing I have made changes to lessen my work schedule, included more time to review and study content, will be practicing more NCLEX questions, and continue to complete my required assignments.

If readmitted into the program I have already created a plan, and have begun to take action. The plan I have created for while I'm in school includes actively working with study groups, attending frequent meetings with my academic advisor to ensure I am in good academic standing, and attending each exam review to give me a better understanding of what I am issues with- content, or question style. Before each class I plan to review the content for the day from the book, and after class I will rewrite my notes to retain the information better. By doing this I will already have neatly organized study material. I will also be focusing on the pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, interventions, and treatments for each disease process. To help with exam questions I have been practicing NCLEX style questions for 20-30 minutes daily to become familiar with these types of questions, and I will continue to so. With this plan i will improve my learning skills, and also progress my study habits.

For work I plan to decrease my hours to only working three days a week while in school. In doing so I will have more time to focus on school while still working which will assist me in my academic success.

During the time I will be out of school I plan to study the material for upcoming classes using the provided syllabus. I already have the syllabus for the class I will be retaking, and I am reviewing each subject to reinforce the material I've learned. I have created a study plan from the NUR 265 syllabus which includes studying content from the units we are going over in class for two to four hours a day. For studying outside of class I plan to use the notes I have taken on my own, and notes from lectures including our textbook. Once each unit from the syllabus is complete, and there is an exam I will combine them to use as an exam study guide. Having a plan using the syllabus will allow me to give myself an appropriate amount of time to review the content multiple times before a test. Doing this I can retain more information than if I had only studied a few days before an exam. While out of school I will also continue answering NCLEX style questions to ensure I am still learning while critically thinking through each question. With the NCLEX questions I will also read each of the questions rationales so I can tie the information together, and have a better understanding.

Being behind in the class by two percent has shown me that I am able reach this goal, but by making these changes I can earn a passing grade without having to worry by planning accordingly, and using good time management. I understand that everyone goes through tough times, and it is up to me to keep pushing, and working towards my dream of being the nurse that I know I can be.

My time at Galen has been nothing but a great experience on campus, and at clinicals. With only three to six months left of my ADN, I would love to be able continue my education at Galen College of Nursing. I have no doubt I will finish out the last two quarters strong if given the opportunity to do so.

Thank you for your time"

I think this is great. May just be typos but first paragraph you have conductive instead of conducive. Second paragraph you left out the word "have" when discussing what you are having issues with. I think your positivity shines in this one! Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Great! Like I said in my initial post - PROOFREAD! I know it's just your final draft, but make sure to proofread. So many people just depend on their word processors grammar and spellcheck, but it doesn't catch everything. Like in your second paragraph, you have:

The plan I have created for while I'm in school includes actively working with study groups, attending frequent meetings with my academic advisor to ensure I am in good academic standing, and attending each exam review to give me a better understanding of what I am issues with- content, or question style.

Just make sure to notice little errors like that, which your word processor most likely won't catch! But great job! It sounds good!
