Reading Hospital School of Nursing Acceptance

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Good morning,

I have submitted all my pre acceptance items to the RHSN (for the Fall of 2015 evening/weekend program) and was curious how long it usually takes to hear if I will be able to take the TEAs test or not? I am also nervous that one or two of my transcripts may be submitted after the deadline of Feb 1st; has anyone been accepted after submitting their information late? Thank you for any information you can provide!

I promise you, you WILL stalk the mail carrier! Keep me posted and good luck :)

I will be keeping my eyes open! Since you are accepted have you had trouble getting in touch with someone as someone else said? If I get accepted I will need to talk to someone about what credits they will accept and I'm hoping that isn't too difficult(if I get in)!

I have had no trouble getting in touch with an adviser or financial aid at all during this process. Make sure you always leave a message and they should call you back. I did have a form in my acceptance packet that showed all of the courses they would transfer in from RACC. I believe they already had this information from my transcripts.

It was quite the packet and then I received another one a few days later for financial aid. Everything is very thorough though and includes all the steps you need to take.

Try not to worry! I am confident you will get in. Stay positive!

Good day, kellymullarkey:

I started January 20th of this year at HACC where I completed my prerequisites; this is the 4th week of their two year (associate degree) RN program. HACC uses concept-based learning (they call it a flipped classroom) and a mini-semester system where there is six weeks of classes (including clinicals) and one week of finals, then a break followed by another mini-semester.

Thank you.

Thanks again! I know if I get in I will have plenty of questions for them, haha! I'll let you know the outcome :)

pmabraham, best of luck in your first semester of nursing school! (and all the terms to come).

Hi pmabraham (sorry, I haven't figured out how to link names yet)

I missed the note about an ADN putting you ahead of the diploma program. I have been doing some research on this and RHSHS does have an agreement with Alvernia that they will accept their RN diploma graduates for their RN to BSN program. In addition, many Philadelphia schools have started programs where students with Bachelor's in other areas can take RN to MSN programs. Though, I'm just hoping to get into nursing school at this point. :)

How is it going so far!? Any suggestions for us before we start? How many mini-semesters are there from now to graduation?

I shadowed at RHSHS in the summer and the students were getting ready to graduate. Many of them were already accepted to RN to BSN programs at , Alvernia, or Chamberlain. I don't think we will have any problems!

That is good to know! I didn't realize that other schools besides Alvernia would accept the diploma program, but that is great news. I know is one of the school's that has an RN to MSN program.

Hi Kelly:

Thank you for sharing about the dual enrollment between RHS and Alvernia. I did look at the RHS (good reputation) and Alveria mix; but at the time I looked (this was approximately 2 years ago) Alvernia was approximately $30,000 per year (while commuting). HACC runs $248 per credit hour, and has dual enrollment options with Millersville (along with EMU and some others) where Millersville RN to BSN would run slightly under $11,000 (total -- not per year; total).

So far HACC's RN program is going well. I went all year round with prerequisites, and was able to finish them in one year; that included pushing hard last spring as I took AP2 and Microbiology at the same time along with two other classes. Clinicals are moving fast with the mini-semester set up. Next week is week 5 already. The RN day program runs two years where the classes are in the fall and spring. Each fall and spring has two mini-semesters. So the total number of mini-semesters is eight; two per semester, two semesters per year.

What I like about their set up is you first learn the basic, yet critical skills in the lab within the college prior to going to various clinical sites (that starts the second semester -- 3rd mini semester) so that you can feel more confident about the skills. They are extremely strict with skill tests offs (for example with vital signs of blood pressure, apical pulse, radial pulse, and respirations we had to be within +/- 2 of the instructor to test off; for medication administration, we have to be 100% correct first time) which further helps in building confidence (i.e. if you pass the strict skills test, and keep in practice, one should do fine onsite).

For those of you going to RHS, may you succeed beyond expectations!

Thank you.

Wow, the program definitely sounds intense. I am nervous going into something like this while working full-time but I know if I keep my mind on it I can do it. Congrats to you for finishing up all the pre-reqs in one year, that is a heavy schedule. Keep up the awesome work!

You're right about Alvernia, it is definitely expensive and I'm glad to see there may be other options out there.
