Re-take of the TEAS/ATI Assessment (?)

Hello fellow in-situ nurses, soon-to-be nurses, students, hopefuls, & any other current statuses of nurses :)

I am starting my first semester of the nursing program in my school this August 20th. Regarding the TEAS, I passed the score, but just barely (passing is a 67; I got a 70 :uhoh21: ). The nursing program has a remedial, 3-day class that's provided for prospectives to attend for those who did not do so well on the TEAS. Those who attend this class do not need to re-take the TEAS again. Regardless, everyone who got acceptance letters will still be in the program.

My question is should I just re-take the exam instead of attending this class? How important is the TEAS in regards to the overall success of the student in the nursing program?

I'm really keen on just re-taking the exam. Are the study guides/manuals helpful at all? Stupid me, I didn't study nor prepare for the exam, thus my score :(

Any input will be very much appreciated. Thanks muchly :)

what are you required to score if you do a re take? maybe the class would be helpful and you could brush up on some of the concepts you didn't do so hot on?? i cannot really say how important a standardized test score is to your over all success but i'd say not all that much! i got a 95.9 on the teas and attribute that primarily to taking it slow (as you can) and really focusing on reading comprehension. if you know what they are asking, chances are you will be able to answer the questions correctly more often. i do believe that's the "hardest" part of that test. even the math section is all about reading comprehension.

don't know if that's helpful at all! =)

oh, and i used the study manual to remind myself of some metric conversions and worked a little bit on spelling. got all the metric stuff right but spelling was my weakest score. i'd say that it is pretty helpful, especially the practice tests.

"How important is the TEAS in regards to the overall success of the student in the nursing program?" --In my opinion, not very important at all.

IMHO your ability to read/comprehend, motivation to study, and determination to do whatever it takes to succeed are far more important to your overall success.

I saw the TEAS as an unnecessary hoop to jump through to get into our program. We had already proven our academic capabilities by our grades (beating out others to get into our program), so what was the point of taking this additional test anyway??? It was plain silly, silly.

O and I wanted to add that going through the study guide got me a high 90's score as well, so I'd venture to say that if you scored a 70 without it, you'll probably ace it after using the study guide.

I agree that it's important to read very carefully, more than once if necessary, to fully understand what they are asking for. I really think this is why I did so well on the exam. Be thorough.

In the math section, also read carefully, but manage your time efficiently so that you are able to complete all questions.

Most importantly, try to get a good night's sleep and relax! I know that last part is easier said than done, though.

Good luck! I'm sure you will do great! :)

In my honest opinion...NOT AT ALL. Like the above poster said I also found the TEAS to be another hoop I had to jump through. It was useless in my opinion.;)

Do you NEED to retake it? I'd honestly see it as a waste of time...but if you need to then, yes, just go through the study guide and do the practice questions.

I see you have taken the Teas test and was wondering if you can tell me about the reading portion? what type of question were on there for ex. main idea, making inferences, conclusion? I would really appreciate your reply and thanks in advance. Take Care and good luck to you.

Don't retake. I don't think that any of the information (from what I remember) was relevant to actual classes. I would do the class because you are likely (if it is from the nursing department) to be much more focused on what will be important in the program.

If your school does the ATI tests through your schooling...those are important and annoying.
