  1. Thanks for the suggestion and for giving me hope! That on-the-spot interview is my GOAL when I'll do driving around to facility to facility. I'm just gonna treat it like a normal, regular job interview, nice suit, hair & face fresh & clean, etc. I'm actually more comfortable (well, sometimes) when I see the person and there's more chances for me to "warm up" and hopefully have a connection with the manager or DON. Thanks for the suggestion once again; it's greatly appreciated
  2. Thanks so much you guys! Yeah, I think calling may be the first step. But I might also do the "put on a suite and grab the resume!" strategy, too, just in case. agldragonRN - Thanks! LOL. I know it's not really the "norm" in wanting to work in LTC, but for some reason, I LOVE THE ATMOSPHERE. Maybe it's my love of taking care of the elderly? But this is definitely where my future lies. I plan on becoming an NP - Gerontology. merlee - Oooh, the yellowpages tactic. I think this might be the "first step." Then if all else fails, I might do the "drive around from facility to facility" strategy. Thank you for the suggestion; never would've thought of it lol! imintrouble - Yeah, I figured I might have to bring my resume (a very thin one at that!) with me. Thank you :) Tankweti - Oh man, I always had this feeling that not just acute care might have to go that route (1-2 years experience a MUST!). 2 years ago (when I graduated fr. an ADN program), the norm was if you can't find a job in acute care, go straight to the LTCs and there it is a guarantee that you will get hired! It's really getting harder and harder out there, huh? Hopefully my 1 year experience might count for SOMETHING. Thanks for the warning; it's good to have an idea of what's going on out there :) Siddhartha - LOL! For some reason, I never ever go to craigslist! I should because, like you, some friends have gotten the best deals (in terms of full-time contracts). I'm always like, "but craigslist is only for car bargains, not jobs." I'm definitely gonna start using this option. Thank you! shaunamarslan - YES! Believe it or not, this was my initial game plan: go from LTC to LTC until I get some kind of contact with a DON or manager (Ha! Tough chance on that). It's still gonna be in my game plan, but maybe a "last resort, I'm desperate!" type of thing. I've gotta start practicing way before I go this route though; I get knock-kneed & nervous doing these interviews. Thank you for your suggestion :)
  3. Hello guys. I have a question regarding nursing home (LTC) hirings. Specifically, HOW to go about them. I'm about to graduate from an RN-BSN program and I've been working part-time at a nursing home. I plan on moving back home (another state) post-graduate next year. I want to continue working in LTC facilities. My question is if I don't have a nurse manager's number on hand or an HR depart. one either, will just walking into a facility and explaining my goal to the person be enough? So I'm just literally going in without any notice. Are there better ways to go about this? I've noticed that most LTC facilities don't advertise hirings like hospitals do, so there isn't a "point person/number" to call to give a forewarning. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Esp. for the new grads. that have had luck in getting these job positions, let me know how you found out about the openings. Thanks in advance :)
  4. Hmm. I smell a buncha' disgruntled Tea Partiers in here...
  5. Sorry for the butt-in but I thought in CA nurses that haven't worked yet as nurses had to do some additional hrs. of "nursing activities" & not just the 30 CEU credits? I think it was 48hrs. worth of nursing? Please correct me if I'm wrong; I have a CA license (issued in 2009) but haven't worked as a nurse yet & the expiration is in 2011.
  6. YES!!!! The Person Vue Trick/"Treat" REALLY WORKS!!!! I PASSED THE NCLEX-RN It feels real good to have your name then right next to that "RN." Thank you ALL for telling me about this trick/treat. I think it's 110% true. So if you're still awaiting the results & you get that wonderful pop-up message, I would give a huge sigh of relief b/c it's true - most likely YOU PASSED NCLEX :)
  7. hey sunflower, good to see that you're willing to try again! you don't even have to take it at the 45day mark. take it whenever you feel ready. maybe take it in jan 2010. also, i don't know if this will help, but it did for me, i hardly told anyone i was taking the nclex. only told 1 person. why? because i felt the more ppl know, the more pressure i was going to get. all the expectations & questions of when's your test???, it could turn into a burden! the next time you take the test, maybe just let a few ppl know?
  8. I'm sorry to hear that. But there's always next time, right? Good thing about this test is that we're given plenty of chances to try! Plus, now you have "past experience" to build on :wink2: Good luck! As everyone sez: You were smart enough to grad. nursing school, you're smart enough to pass the NCLEX.
  9. I'm very skeptical by nature. BUT! But... after reading through all 430+ replies here, I'm slowly starting to kinda believe in this trick. I guess Just one way of lessening the anxiety & agony of WAITING (why does CA have to be so cruel???). Anyway, all I've been doing is going to Pearsonvue again & again to see if the pop-up will cont. to pop up. & it has :) & seeing how everyone's saying that's a good sign, I guess it is! & this forum has been a GOD GIVEN GIFT. Reading everyone's replies keeps my hopes up!:redbeathe
  10. OMG!!!!!!! JarofPennies & veeeeej (I'm so sorry I don't know how to spell your name) CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay. So for both of ya'll the trick is real. + the countless other testimonials. Okay. I can lessen my anxiety. I guess. Got maybe one more week to go before I can hopefully see my name on the board. CONGRATS AGAIN YOU TWO! *time to get drunk *
  11. Hey, let us know your results, kay? I'm sorta in the same boat as in you, only I took the NCLEX-RN this Tues. (California) & it's only been 48hrs. & CA doesn't participate in the quick results. Thing is, for some ppl they might have to wait 11 - possibly even MORE - days until they see their names on the BON. So... if I were you, to save yourself the misery & torture, just pay the $8 & get the results. *I'm very curious about this Pearson Vue Trick. I keep getting the pop-up after a gazillion times I've tried it. Soooo... I truly hope that's a good sign. Seems like ppl are going by it*
