3rd time's the charm?

Published

Hello everyone,

I'm a new member to Allnurses so I'm not really sure how to do this but am desperate for help.

I've taken the NCLEX twice already, but sadly failed.

Just got the official results/letter so all the crazy feelings are still here.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to study?

I know I have test anxiety but am taking different measures for that (Inderal and techniques to stay calm).

I've read the Kaplan book and done some practice questions from them and I was considering taking a class from them.

Any suggestions/advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

I really would like to make this third try my last..

What did your performance report reveal?

I answered 75 questions

Management of Care - Below The Passing Standard

Safety and Infection Control - Near The Passing Standard

Health Promotion and Maintenance - Below The Passing Standard

Psychosocial Integrity - Below The Passing Standard

Basic Care and Comfort - Above The Passing Standard

Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies - Near The Passing Standard

Reduction of Risk Potential - Near The Passing Standard

Physiological Adaptation - Near The Passing Standard

Would taking the Kaplan NCLEX Review Classroom be a good decision?

Even though I've already taken the NCLEX twice?

I'm completely lost on what to do now. I should be eligible to retake by end of August.

It looks like your focus needs to be at ALL that were near and below the passing standard. :yes:

There are many sources to use that can help with strategies regarding those subjects; the ones that come to mind that I used are Saunders Flash cards, which had questions in the four concepts of becoming a competent, entry-level nurse:

1. Safe, effective care;

2.Health promotion;

3.Physiological Integrity;

4.Psychosocial integrity

Will determine WHAT the question is asking you; the question may be Respiratory related-but is it a Health Promotion or a Safety, or a Physiological or a Psychosocial one? Would you know the difference and choose the BEST answer?

Once one understands the concepts of NCLEX, they can do so successfully.

You can also look into the Kaplan book again; again review the concepts of the test-you can also go to the NCSBN site to fully understand the concepts as well; they also have a review that is reasonably priced and known to have successes with their review as well.

The issue may not necessarily the source of the review, but how one approaches the NCLEX itself: understanding the four concepts and choosing the best answer makes all the difference :yes: .

Best wishes.

Multiple Time test taker and FINALLY PASSED! 76Questions My experience

WOW! Let me just tell you all..... ITS BEEN ONE HELL OF A JOURNEY!!!! BUT if i can do it.... anyone can do it. DON'T YOU EVER GIVE UP!!!!!

I promised myself that i would write on here the day i finally pass my exam...So many of you always inspired me everyday.. when i still managed to struggle over and over again with this NCLEX..... well..here i am... Officially an RN BSN =)

(sounds so good to say that)

Well this is all i can say... I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING... YOU NAME IT I TRIED IT.. spent so much money on different books...Different reviews...Different techniques...etc.

So when i graduated nursing school my first attempt was Kaplan... and then in between my first attempt to my last attempt i tried a bunch of other review courses... Davis, Lacharty, Nclex4000, Uprep, Saunders and even Hurst review....my last attempt... (refuse to tell you how many i took it because i know there has been some rude people on here that have put multiple test takers down for taking it for many times) but for my last attempt... something told me to go back to Kaplan....SO I DID....

Everyday i would wake up at 9am.. shower, eat a good breakfast and then pack up my bags and books like i'm about to go camp out at the lib...get there by 11... and stay till about 830-9pm. everyday for about 6 weeks straight... I MEAN EVEN ON THE WEEKENDS. No lie... I dedicated myself because i was at a breaking point in my life... and wanted this so badly... in all this 6 weeks i even lost a BF of 3 years... but i fought it through and stayed focused... this is what i used and ONLY USED...

Kaplan online videos - Content along with the content book

Kaplan online videos- on Questions

Kaplan online Qbank

Kaplan online QT 4 and 5

NCSBN- study guide detail plan ( 63 page one )

I went by CLIENT NEED....that's it... don't go by system by system...go by Client needs.. follow the detail study guide and read what each section contains... and what they are asking for you to know... for NCLEX... understand that and do videos on content..and read along with the book and make notes and understand what each client need section is asking. I did 2-3 days per client need... at the end... after you understand one section at a time.. you follow up with Qbank questions about 100 a day...and aimed for 60% or higher.. if you got lower.. thats when you know your low in THAT SECTION and you go back and review.. AFTER i come home at 830.. i ate dinner and showered then relaxed for 30 min... and then at 11pm I started right back up... and just ONLY WATCH question videos on Kaplan... ON THE SECTION you did that day... all you do is lay in bed and watch the lady breakdown the questions and understand how to breakdown the question..THIS HELPED ME SO MUCH on Test taking strategies for Nclex...

I did this routine for 5 full weeks and on the 6th week... i did nothing but Qbank questions and QT 4 and QT 5

i scored a 65.7% on QT4 and a 65.3% on QT5 =)

IT ALL HELPED ME SO MUCH because when i was in the exam i could honestly tell you... what section the question was from... and what they were looking for in the questions because of the detailed study plan along with kaplans client need videos...

So I got to question #75 and my computer didnt shut off... so i was like WHAAAAATTTT arghhhhh so took a deep breath and prayed....answered question 76... and BHAM... screen turned blue.. and my legs went NUMB lol..... got in the car...5 min after i got done with my test.. and did the PVT trick... and GOT THE GOOD POP up... I cannot even tell you how loud i screamed.. started balling and just couldn't believe it..2.5 years later... of hard work studying my butt off with so many ups and down...depression and back....... finally conquered this test..

I just wanted MULTIPLE TEST TAKERS out there.. to know... DONT EVER LET THIS TEST BREAK U DOWN... DONT EVER LET THIS TEST MAKE U FEEL LIKE A FAILURE.. AS THOUGH YOUR NOT GOOD ENOUGH.... DONT EVER GIVE UP.... PRAY PRAY PRAY... HAVE FAITH AND PATIENCE AND WITH GODS TIMING AND PRAYERS... I PROMISE YOU.. EVERYTHING HAPPENS AT THE RIGHT TIME... FOR THE RIGHT REASONS...I never gave up.. i had people tell me... " are you sure you want to do this? are you sure this is what you want to do? maybe you should change your field... try something different" NO WAY... i refuse for the devil to win.. i kept fighting and Never gave up... and now i can officially say I AM A RN BSN!!!! its possible... and if i can do it.. so can you! This test will not determine if you are a good nurse or not.... I PROMISE.. because I'm confident, I know, i will be an amazing NURSE despite my struggles through this journey with Nclex. some people are just horrible test takers, and that's me.. but Ill be one hell of a nurse =) So again. NEVER GIVE UP AND KEEP SWIMMING... =)

With love,

i am waiting for that miracle for me for 3rd time! congratulations

It was one thing that really stood out to me.... ****Get the detailed Test Plan**

I have been using it to study !!!! It's true, when you do the questions on Kaplan on any other resource you know what area the question relates and how to answer. Great technique.
