i posted a bunch for you before on a previous thread that you started

I had mine OB and Peds in second semester, and I never thought I would end up liking but I did.As far as peds we did not pass meds (the nurses didn't let us) but we did our assessment on the kids, vital signs, sometimes we gave them baths(but not to often).I think having a cute stethoscope would help out a little (something colorful, not necessarly with some cartoon character on it).The kids will want to touch it,play with it.Also my instructor gave us advice to taking the kid's vital signs when they are sleeping,it is much easier than when they are awaken and moving. Also pretend you are confident even if you are nervous because majority of the time the parent will be there to watch what you are doing with their child.I guess they have to be able to trust you that you are competent.Learn about two very popular diseases in pediatric ward such as Bronchiolitis and gastritis and review different breath sounds.

As far as OB,there areas you probably will be exposed to are Labor and delivery, triage and postpartum care (where the mother is recovering from pregnancy),you probably will see couple of births (cesearan section, natural birh, circumcision). Each area is a little bit different. On the post-delivery unit you will be assesing the mother and the newborn, giving medication and also doing patient teaching how to wash the baby, breastfeeding, you may also help out with discharging the patients. You will also give the pain meds and other. We were allowed to give pain medications and other on the postpartum unit but I didnt give any in labor and delivery ward)In the labor and delivery unit you will do a lot of watching on the monitor, take vital signs, observe the fetal heart rate. The only thing that I found difficult at the beggining was taking the newborn vital signs(they breath so fast:) But dont worry too much because most of the time you will follow your nurse, and usually the nurses at the OB rotation are pretty decent.Good luck!
