RCC Low GPA hopeful "2015"

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hi All,

I'm putting my cards on the table for RCC 2015. I came to the realization that I cannot afford Laboure College and I'm limited with funds from Financial Aid from my previous Bachelors degree. I messed up my freshman year and sophomore year I brought my Overall GPA to a 2.5 =(. My prereqs: English B, Psychology A, A&PI C, Lab C , Algebra B I registered for A&P II w/ lab for this fall I'm shooting for an A!

At the moment I'm currently studying for the Teas, I purchased the recommend items. Testing reopens in January. I should have my courses done by then and prepared enough to take the exam.

For any hopefuls, current students or grads your opinion is greatly appreciated. Is there chance of an acceptance that I may have? God is good, I wont give up.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I know RCC looks primarily at the TEAS scores, so the higher the score, the better chance of you getting your application looked at more carefully. The second thing that they look for is your pre-req gpa, if your pre-req gpa is high coupled with a really good TEAS score (lets say 80 or above) then you have a good chance of getting in.

Thanks for the response! Any suggestions on helpful study tools for the teas?

The ATI Teas study manual is really good, i found that it compromises of all information that was on the exam. The only thing was that it was not extensive in regard to the science section but covered the basics. But in other areas, it was really good, I scored higher on my second time of the exam after I used this book. I also reccommend using also the McGraw teas book. It has 5 practice exams with solutions and explanations for each exam. I used the exams as practice and guidance on the areas I needed to focus on. I hope this helps :)

I agree with Nkiru. The ATI book is really good. I would even say it is the best as I got questions on the exam that were word for word from the manual. Good luck!!

How long is the RN program? Is it Spring, Summer and Fall or Spring and Fall?

2 years...the full time starts in September and follows the college academic calender and the part time starts in January

That's good to know, I thought it was in January. Thanks for the info I purchased the ATI and the McGraw books.

@roundbrown26: It doesn't hurt to submit an essay and even a resume along with your application to the school. Also, if you have been in any national honor societies, show them proof of your successes. Recommendations aren't necessary and I don't know if they help at all, but I guess it doesn't hurt to try putting them in with your other application materials.

@Focus&Determine: To add onto what Nkiru14 has said, both the day and evening programs at RCC are 2 year full time schedules. Day always starts every September and evening is every January. The application cycle for the Day program begins around February with the TEAS exams starting at the end of the month and going until mid-March. For the Evening program, their application deadline has been listed as being October 15th (if I remember correctly).

To you both: If I remember correctly from the info session back in January, about 40 students get accepted into the Day program and about 35 in the Evening portion. The faculty members running the session also mentioned that you need to have a TEAS composite score in the 80s and up to be considered, although I know of some students who were accepted with lower scores. I hope this helps and best of luck to you both with your applications to RCC!! :D

Thanks @lizee2010 that's definitely a great idea!

Hi @roundbrown. I wanted to know if you had heard back from RCC. Were you accepted into the program?

From what I heard, acceptance letters were sent out since November.
