Rcc fall 2017 applicants

Published

So I haven't found a thread for fall, so I'm going to start this one so if anyone wants to chat let's all start here...

Hi everyone

First of I want to say congrats to all of you that got accepted!

I just graduated from RCC's RN program in June and I loved the program.

I wanted to give you a few tips for those of you starting the program

1. You really don't need those giant husky rolling backpacks, you don't need to take ALL your books everyday, unless you absolutely cant part with not having them. I had a backpack the whole program and I survived.

2. buy used textbooks, you don't need the latest edition of the book, the content stays the same & it saves you money

3.make friends! seriously, having friends through the program will make it 10x better

4. be prepared to do A LOT of printing, if you can print double sided, smaller font, anything to squeeze it all on 1 page. Really you print a lot.

If you have any questions let me know and good luck to all of you!

Congratulations on graduating the program and good luck on the NCLEX. Thanks for the tip about the backpacks, I've read several posts about getting a rolling backpack but really didn't want to. I had a few questions if you have a chance, Is there a clinical site that you preferred over the others, Corona is closer to me but I want to go to Kaiser or RCH? Also did you end up using the coursepoint textbooks, we have a few assigned and usually you have to get a new copy in order to get the code.

Thanks,

Thank you very much

I had clinicals at RCH & RUHS (Riverside County Hospital) & also went to Patton State Hospital for mental health rotation. In my experience RUHS was a lot busier than community, and the nurses at county were really nice and receptive to having students. RCH is good for your OB rotation if you want to see births/ C-sections or if you want to do L&D. Both hospitals are good sites for learning and getting hands on with skills. As far as Kaiser and Corona, I cant comment on them because I never had clinical there. We also had to get the coursepoints, I remember that if you purchase the code from the publisher then it usually came with an E-book, so double check with the publisher website, however I did purchase some of the books because I like having the physical text book to highlight in but that's just me.

I prefer a physical book so I'm trying to get the books through ebay and amazon. Do you know how the rotations are broken down, I think we go to med surge for NRN-11 but I'm not sure about future semesters? Did you try to do the jump-start program that RCC has with CSUF for the RN-BSN, if you have any tips that would be great.

I have some books if you want to buy some from me.

11-Med surg, 12-OB, peds and chronic, 13-acute, n21-psych/med surg and 22 critical care

I was going to do the jump start program but I wasn't able to because I didn't receive financial aid during the summer to pay for it. But I heard it's a good program and you do get a head start. I heard one of the courses is heavy on papers so keep that in mind. I am starting CSUF's RN to BSN in August.

I've got most of the books and the others I'm bidding on, but thanks for the offer. Were your cohorts split into 2 groups, where one group ended up having to go an extra day? I don't know which would be better.

does anyone know which of the books from the list we NEED RIGHT NOW for N-11?

I think the main books we need are Fundamentals of Nursing and Clinical nursing skills. I'm pretty sure I read we need these books on this site but I don't remember the exact page.

Definitely interested in your books! Email me kdiers at gmail dot com :)

Has everyone purchased their clinical bag already? I just placed my order, but it's on backorder & I'm afraid I won't get it on time because it could take up to 8 weeks to ship.

I ordered mine over a week ago, the bag was on a 6week back order then and would JUST make it in time for clinical day school to start. However, I am also still a little nervous because my uniforms were supposed to be hear already and they are not. I'm trying to be patient and have faith everything will get done on time. Wishing you luck!!!

I ordered my uniform and clinical bag the day after intake and they were both shipped today. I guess they were waiting till everything in my order was compete before shipping.
