Are you attending there now? I have applied for the summer program and have my interview on June 24th. What do you think of the program so far??

i would not attend this college EVER AGAIN, I HAVE BEEN IN THE PROGRAM HERE AND it has been a nightmare. i HAVE A FRIEND WHO GRADUATED LAST YEAR AND WARNED ME, the instructors are horrible and the clinical rotation is a joke. i have never seen such a money hungry group of people in my life. SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

I am the Dean of the nursing program at the Ocala Campus and would like to address your concerns. Our nursing program along with our campus is regionally accredited by the Higher Learnng Commission, which allows our school to be approved by the Florida Board of Nursing, allowing our graduates to sit for the NCLEX-RN. We are also currently in candidacy for NLNAC accreditation, which is a voluntary review of the nursing program and demonstrates our dedication to providing only the highest level of nursing education to our students. Rasmussen seems like a decent program but I would never sink 25-40 K for a ADN degree when your first year's take over pay is about 40 K. This does not seem like a good deal to me for a ASN degree. The local community colleges have strict criteria but the tuition is extremely cheap. Private colleges take advantage of the stagnant job market and social conditions of the local community. They know that this particular area is economically depressed so they charge you lots of money for tuition. Donot believe that local hospitals will excuse your debte because nursing is not in demand as it once was.

Granted I donot know if this applies to Rassmusen but its definatley true for many for profit colleges.

Had planned to apply here, yet found out that there was a student who had been removed from the school for being arrested for a drug felony, was not convicted and yet is now going through the process of getting back into the school. This person has multiple DUI's and drug arrests. Just can't spend that kind of tuition money if these are the people that are allowed in the school. Not much faith in the program now.

So nedi, you think that being arrested for something makes you guilty? You'll never serve on a Jury!

Old thread, but I'll bite.

I graduated from the PN program at the Ocala campus. Way more positive things to say than negative. Let me break it down in bullet form.

Pros

- no waiting lists

- 4 start dates a year

- small classes

- easy access to dean, computers, library, academic resources, staff that are willing to help

- good education, I learned a ton

- resources to help you pass the nclex (ati, hurst, etc)

Cons

- there are a few teachers who are not awesome, but that's to be expected everywhere. For the most part, the staff is amazing. There are two male nursing teachers- 1 is such a great guy, the other is the devils best friend. You'll figure it out quickly.

- financial aid response can sometimes be reeeaaaally slow. They claim they are hiring new financial aid people, which may be true. They would do best to get a real overhaul of their team though. If you are coming from a state college, you will find the financial aid staff here often frustrating. Tip- the head of financial aid will always get back with you within an hour. If you complain to her, she lights fires. I don't think I can say specific names on this website.

People complain that private schools are expensive. Well, yeah. However, you graduate in two years, instead of four like most ADN programs, where you do two years of pre reqs then pray to Jesus your grades are good enough to not have you sitting on a waiting list. That's a minimum of two years earlier you graduate and two years of you making real money in a real profession. I can't understand when people don't get this point.

Rasmussen Ocala had their final acen/nlnac walk through in November. I believe, if I'm correct, they will be acen/nlnac accredited by March 14. However, as of now, they have not applied for the lpn program accreditation.

Overall- I would recommend, with some caveats.
