If you have your MSN and join the army reserves what rank should you go in as? I have heard anywhere from 1st Leu. to Cap. Two different recruiters have told me 2 different answers.

Hi,

I just went in as a 1Lt. 66H8A AN-RC (and I have a MSN).

My recruiter could not get a cpt for me as a reserve(?). On my "Award of entry grade" document, I see that I have 4 yrs 28days of constructive credit.(--even thought I have had my license for 5.9 yrs).

Apparently, 2 yrs 28days is in "excess" of YEARS required for grade.....so, I don't know if this is credited toward cpt or not? I guess I'll find out.

Good luck

I just got my MSN this year and will commission as a reserve 1LT until I go AD as a CPT. My application was approved last month but I have an outstanding speeding ticket so I have to wait until it is settled before I can move forward. I have 11 years nursing experience and 10 years prior service (enlisted). I don't think that I would have gone in for less than CPT because I think that I have too much experience for anything less. Another thing... I currently work as a civilian nurse on an Army post with previous Head Nurse experience there. They probably took all of that into consideration. But... I'm still twittling my thumbs waiting to commission! Good Luck!!

So are you going reserve first, then active? The reason I was asking what rank is because I thought I had read somewhere that if you have your msn, you would go in as a captain. I am almost done with MSN, and was going to wait.

No,

I had my MSN and another MS, CCRN in Adults and Peds--and I still went in as 1Lt. I haven't heard of anyone going in as Cpt.--but that doesn't mean it can't happen.

If you do go in as Cpt, you will be expected to lead and take the role as a Cpt. Personally, after going to a few drills, I am glad I don't have that responsibility now.

Good Luck!

Thanks, I am happy with 1st lt. My packet is not going to the board until October, so I am just making sure all my ducks are lined up.
