"You can never go back" so they say.....

Published

Here's my background: 6 mos. med-surg tech; 9 mos. med-surg. RN; 1 yr (currently) RN hospice case manager. Have learned lots w/Hospice, very intuitive, my pts./families like me, however, sometimes I feel the need to work the opposite end of the nursing spectrum again. Originally left med-surg critical care ( 1st job after graduating from nursing school), due to high-level job stress and just being overwhelmed, i.e., pts. were becoming more acute. Hospice was/still is comforting and I relate comfortably to death and pts. After leaving pts. homes/nursing facility, I'm so darn glad I was there for them. Yet, sometimes, I feel the need to go back (hospital) and try it again. (Miss using some of my skills), has anyone ever left and gone back to the other side? Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

Can you pick up a few days here and there

per diem?

I work part time-6/12h shifts a month at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, covers my insurance....then perdiem for a local hospice (i do more hours for the hospice than the hospital.)

I usually do 6 days straight for the hospital, so i'm available the rest of the month for the hospice. It works for me...

Thank you! That's a very good idea, that way I could continue to get hospital experience and still work with the spiritual/emotional side that I know I'm good with. Thanks to both of you.
