So... I have an interview at Simi Valley Hospital for "CPOE Superuser" has anyone else heard of this?

Yep!

You are going to be providing tech support for physicians whose hospitals are transferring over to electronic order entry/management. They will call you if they have problems with the software or need help. I know of a hospital that has almost 30+ new grads hired in this role.

Hospitals are using this position to offer new grads a break with the bad job market and screen new grads they like and offer the lucky few a job.

B52-H:Thanks for the info! Do you, by any chance, know how much they pay? I suppose I would do it for darn near anything just to get my foot in the door, but I need at least enough to cover gas. :)

I think its around $12-14 hour. Work hard, make a good impression and you will get your foot wedged :)

Depending on what phase of transition the hospital is at in transferring over to electronic charting, you may also be providing support for other hospital staff (Nurses, RTs etc)

Usually it's just the physicians as they seem to have the hardest time switching over, unless you give them a shiny new iPad 2 to enter their orders with ;)

Is it a phone or in person interview?

When I applied to Glendale Adventist it was a phone interview first and then a open house interview. They ended up hiring around 60 people. I was offered a position there on the L&D floor on day shift. Some people ended up getting their 2nd choice unit. When I had my interview they said to pick my top 2 units. I first interviewed on the phone with nurse recruiter. At the open house I interviewed with the director of L&D and also the CPOE RN. If you have any other questions feel free to send me a message.

Wow 60 people! Did they say how many they would hire as RNs? And how long is the CPOE job for?

The pay at Glendale was what their new grads make. And during downtime you can assist the RN, but no medications, no IVs, no procedures (foleys,NGT,etc). It's a good way to get your foot in the door and interact with managers and other staff members.

Very nice! Did you finish orientation already?

I was surprised by the amount of people they hired. They had 3 shifts (day, evening, night) for each unit to fill. So for L&D there were two CPOE users for day shift. I am not sure about the other units. They didn't say how many they would hire as RNs. They kept emphasizing that "this is your time to shine". The orientation started in April and I believe the position ended in June sometime.

I only attended day 1 of orientation because that same day I was offered a RN position closer to my house and in the unit I wanted to work in. Do you work at Glendale?
