"Free" books & CD programs online

  1. Do you use "free" resources?

No, that's stealing and morally wrong.

Yes, I'll take whatever I can get for free - books are expensive.

Yes, but only to preview the book before I choose one to buy.

No, but only because I don't know where to find them.

I don't download anything but my friends and I will copy each other's CD-ROMs.

I'm wondering how many nursing students actually go to the web to download copies of books and CD programs, or even share electronic resources with their peers.

It's fairly easy to type a search into google and find a bounty of resources, like NCLEX review books, NCLEX CD-ROM programs, reference manuals, care plan books, etc. Or if you bought an NCLEX book and it came with a CD full of questions, do you copy it and let all your friends copy it too?

What does everyone think about this? Obviously these aren't "legal" copies, according to the user agreement that all of them have.

I have to admit that I have downloaded and used these resources quite a bit. I feel bad, because the nurses who wrote these books likely aren't rich, so we're hurting their income by not paying for their work. On the other hand, downloading a bunch of resources allows me to sample them, and I do actually buy the ones I like and know I will use a lot.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and comments but do not post any links to download these resources - it's against the rules for this site.

Do you mind sending me some of those websites in a PM?

I start nursing school soon and $$ hasn't been on my side this year ;)

Depending on the format, you should make sure you have a solid anti-virus on your system and keep it updated. I used to know quite a few people who would embed certain things into such files and often the websites to download the files also have surprises embedded in them as well. PDFs are especially vulnerable.

I wouldn't do it because of various issues including risk of exposing my system to something questionable but also because of the stealing issues.

I'm pretty sure that's against the rules for this site... Try google. I've found a lot of them by searching for a specific title then I will come across a site with a bunch of download links. There's a facebook page with a ton of them...
