"Do you miss the ER?"

on sept. 25 it will be three months since i started home health. i've been busy learning the ropes, building my caseload, getting to know the docs in that area, etc. today one of my son's coworkers asked me if i miss the er.

i was rather surprised when i was able to say without any misgivings, "no, i don't!"

i loved it while i was there, and i'm grateful to have had the opportunity and i have some great memories, but i don't miss it at all.

I have only been out 6 weeks and I miss it already. Hospice is quite different.

I just started in a larger city ER after working rural ER (and OB and med/surg and pre/post op and post-partum).

It is a challenge. Scary. I'm torn between being fascinated and scared.

I left a busy (240 patients a day) ER 6 months and 17 days ago. I am doing peds/neo transport (ground and air). Whenever I go to a referral ER for a patient I practically break into hives. I absolutely do not miss it not one bit. I've stopped in to see my friends from my previous job and was shocked to see how haggard and stressed they looked. ALL of them have said to me how lucky I am to be out of there and how much they would like to leave as well. Unfortunately most are older and are afraid to leave what they know and lose their seniority (whatever that's worth). They are a great group of people who are being absolutely beaten down and it makes me sick.
